“I’m ready,” he finally says and takes the first step forward as we all follow him.
Our group walks in and straight up to the information desk where an older woman sits.A smile is on her face as she looks over each one of us and I think I know her from somewhere other than the hospital.I can’t place where I’ve seen her though.
“Can I help you?”she asks, her voice holding that sweet, grandmotherly tone.
“We’re here to see a patient.She was brought in yesterday with my brother,” Fury says, his voice breaking as he clears his throat and I step up closer.
“The patient’s name is Wren Thompson.She was admitted yesterday and we’d like to see her if that’s possible.We don’t know her condition or anythin’,” I speak up as she presses a few keys on the keyboard in front of her.
“Let me give her nurse a call and see if she’s up for visitors today.If you could all wait over there for a minute, please,” she says as Fury nods and moves away from the desk.
I watch as she places the call and talks for a few minutes before she goes silent.The woman remains on the phone for a few minutes and doesn’t say anything.I don’t know what’s going on, but if I had to guess, they’re either looking for the nurse or asking the patient if she wants to see my best friend.She fucking better see him.This girl might hold answers we’re looking for depending on how much she saw before the explosion.
After several minutes, the woman hangs up the phone and waves us back over.Our group moves slowly as several people come in the hospital for various appointments, tests, and to see patients.When we step back up to the desk, I can feel the tension in Fury’s body from a foot away.He’s not ready for this but will do it because he wants to meet this girl.This is what he does every damn day—forces himself to do the shit he doesn’t want to because it’s what’s required of him.Before, it didn’t bother him as much as it is right now.This situation is out of his control and he can’t do a damn thing to bring Razer back.I don’t even know if he’s called Millie yet to tell her.Not a lot of people know about her, but I’m one of the few who has had the pleasure of meeting the woman.
Millie is Razer’s woman.They’re not married and he never made her his ol’ lady because she doesn’t want to be around the club.They met in high school from what I’ve been told and it was love at first sight for Razer.Fury has told me their relationship was intense from the very beginning and they are truly in love.Razer actually has a son and daughter with Millie.She got pregnant in high school and they have raised their children together.Now, she’ll have to move forward without Razer at her side.Millie has never kept Demolition, Fury, or Vulture from seeing the kids whenever they wanted, she just refuses to come to the clubhouse or compound.I can’t blame her and Razer didn’t either.
“You can go up to see her.She’s awake and knows you’re here.Take a visitor pass for each of you.It will have her room number on it,” the woman informs us as she holds out a sheet with the visitor passes you peel off and stick on your clothing.
“Thank you, Ma’am,” Fury says as he sticks the pass to his chest and moves aside for the rest of us.
Once we’re ready to go, we make our way to the elevators and head up to the second floor.Fury leads our group as we exit the elevator and search for the room in question.Nurses stop to stare at us and visitors move out of our way as we walk down the hall.I listen as the sounds of several different shows or movies fill the hall from the rooms we pass by.Finally, Fury stops outside a door and just stares at it.Again, none of us say a word and wait for him to make the first move.
“Son, I got this.You take the time you need.I won’t ask her any questions until you’re in the room with us so you hear everythin’ from her,” Demolition finally says as he moves around his son and knocks on the door before slowly opening it and heading inside.
I wait in the hall with Fury until he shakes his head and takes the first step forward.Entering the room behind him, I notice all the guys are against the wall at the end of the bed while Tristan remains outside the room without me telling him to.He’s a great Prospect and rarely has to be told anything.When I get my first look at the girl laying in the bed, my breath catches and I can’t take my eyes off of the patient.It’s Little Bird.The girl who saved Razer is the same one I haven’t been able to get off of my mind for months.What the hell are the chances of that?
Chapter Five
Wren
FOUR VERY LARGE menenter my hospital room as I try to sit up straighter in the bed.I look at each one of them and can see nothing but pain filling their features as they lean against the wall at the end of my bed.Especially the older two men.I know I should feel intimidated or scared of them in this room with me because they’re larger than life and could truly do anything to me, but I’m not scared at all.I don’t believe any of these men will hurt me as I wring my hands in the blanket covering my body.
“Hey,” one of the older men says as he continues to look at me.“My name is Demolition and I’m Razer’s dad.He’s the guy you covered yesterday.There are two more men comin’ in the room, they just need a minute.The rest of the men already in here are Vulture, my brother, Carver, and Ice.”
He points to each man as he speaks their name and I get a nod from them.I keep my hands covered by the blankets over my body because I took out the chain I was handed yesterday and have been holding it in my hands since the nurse and doctor left me a little while ago.For some reason I can’t explain, I just needed to have it in my hands.The chain is silver and has a man’s ring on it.I’d say it’s a wedding band, but I’m not sure if that’s the case or not.The ring is also silver and there’s nothing engraved on it or anything that I can see.I’ve noticed a few spots of blood on both items, but didn’t clean it off because they don’t belong to me.I’m simply holding them until I know it’s time to hand them over to the rightful owner.
