The door opens before anyone can say another word in the silent room.I look over as two more men enter the room.My eyes almost bulge out of my head as I take in the second man and recognize Judge. He’s staring at me as I quickly turn my head away from him.I don’t want to see him for any reason.Especially after the news I got today from the doctor.I’m confused and not ready to see the man who took my virginity. My heart starts pounding in my chest and I wouldn’t be surprised if everyone in the room can hear it.They can certainly hear the beeping on the monitor at my side starting to sound faster as I try to calm myself down so Judge doesn’t realize he still affects me two months later.Fuck my life!

“Are you Wren?”the man who just walked in with Judge asks me.

“I am.”

“I’m Fury.I was Razer’s brother,” he introduces himself and I pause as I realize he said ‘was’.Does that mean what I think it means?“Are you willin’ to answer a few questions for us?”

“I’ll answer any question you ask the best I can.I do have one request before you start asking them, though,” I say, already knowing what I need to happen.

“What’s that?”Fury asks me, stepping up closer to my bed as Judge and the rest of the guys remain where they stand.I can feel Judge’s eyes staring at me as I focus on Fury and no one else in the room.

“I don’t want him in the room with us.He doesn’t have any reason to be here,” I state, pointing at Judge without looking at him.

“Judge?Do you know him?”Fury returns, confusion on his face as he looks between the two of us.

“I do know him and I don’t want him in here.If you can’t make him leave, then you can all leave,” I tell him and can feel the tension filling the room even more as I catch Judge step forward out of the corner of my eye.

“Are you kiddin’ me?”I hear Judge ask, anger filling his voice as I still don’t look in his direction.“Do you realize I’m the fuckin’ President of this club?I have every right to be in this room with them because I knew Razer.”

“I don’t care what he says, Fury. Please, make him leave. His status in the club means nothing to me because I’m not part of it and I don’t understand what he’s talking about. Please,” I say, not caring if I’m begging Fury in front of others or not.

“Judge, I’m askin’ as your best friend to just do this for her.I don’t know what the hell happened between the two of you, but she doesn’t want you around. You know how much this means to me.Please,” Fury begs and I can feel Judge hesitate before he finally leaves the room without another word.

“I’m sorry if I upset him.I just don’t want to see him,” I say once the door has closed behind Judge.

“It’s okay.Don’t worry about him. He’s not used to women tellin’ him to get away from them. It’s usually the other way around,” Fury says as I nod in response.

“Can I ask how your brother is?”I finally ask him as I look up at the man who flinches before reaching out to grab the edge of my bed as if to steady himself.

“He, um, he didn’t make it,” Fury finally says, his voice breaking as I gasp and reach out to grab his hand in comfort.

Fury doesn’t push me away and accepts my touch as he wraps his fingers around my hand.

“I’m so sorry. If I’d have known, I wouldn’t have asked,” I tell him honestly as tears fill my eyes.“I tried so hard to get him away from the fire and then cover him in the explosion.Maybe I injured him more.Or did something I shouldn’t have done and that caused his death. He was such a big guy and it took me forever to move him as far away as I did.”

“Hey, don’t cry,” Fury says, reaching out and wiping a few of my tears away.“You did the absolute best you could given the situation. Can you tell us what you know?”

“I don’t know much at all.I was leaving Briar Glen and driving on the highway when I started to smell smoke.Obviously I saw it all before I actually knew what was on fire.I pulled over on the opposite side of the road because I couldn’t see anyone at the diner and didn’t know if anyone had called for help.I couldn’t tell what was on fire because the flames were so high and hot.The smoke was so damn thick and I could hardly see anything in front of me.When I went to call for emergency services, I heard someone weakly call out for help.I had been asking if anyone was there.

“Slowly I moved forward until my foot nudged another person’s foot.I followed the body up to the top and grabbed him under his arms.It took every bit of strength I had to pull him from the smoke and flames. Not that we were really out of the smoke. The entire area was filling up with it.Everything was so hot and my grip on the man was slipping when I finally had no choice but to stop moving him.I thought he was safe and far enough away from everything. Then the explosion happened.I didn’t think, just covered his body with my own.I might be small, but I covered as much as possible.

“After that, I think I heard two names being called.Razer and maybe Greyson.Everything is kind of fuzzy.I could be wrong on the names I heard.I didn’t see who was calling out for them either. My vision was already fading and I passed out. That’s the last thing I remember until I woke up here.It took me a few minutes to remember what even happened,” I tell Fury and the others what I know and they listen intently for any detail I don’t think is important but they might see it differently.

“Did he say anythin’?”the second older man asks after several minutes of silence.

“Yes, he did.He put this chain in my hand and wrapped my fingers tightly around it before saying Fury,” I tell them as I lift my hand and hold out the chain.I hear a few gasps in the room but my eyes are locked on Fury.

“He said my name?”he asks me, tears spilling over as I hand the chain over to him.

“He did. That’s the last thing I heard,” I inform him as he takes the chain carefully from my hand.

Fury leans over and carefully hugs me.I give him all the comfort I can as he holds me as tight as he dares not knowing where I’m injured. The hug seems to last forever as his tears soak my hospital gown and I don’t move a muscle.Fury is not going to pull away before he’s ready to and I don’t want him to feel as if I don’t want to hug him. This is the first time I’ve been touched in months and I’ll admit I’m starved for physical touch from someone.Even if it’s just to comfort another person.

When he finally pulls back, both of us are crying and the men in the room with us remain silent. The last thing I expected to hear was that Razer, the man I tried to save, didn’t make it.Fury wipes my tears and I wipe his at the same time.Another measure of comfort between the two of us.

“What injuries did you get from tryin’ to help my son yesterday?”Demolition asks me, stepping forward as Fury remains at my side.

“My lungs are irritated from the smoke inhalation.I’ve got bruising and cuts all over my back and the top of my thigh.Everything is superficial I guess. The only reason I’m still here is because they’re worried about me getting pneumonia. They want to make sure that doesn’t happen,” I answer him as I try to shift on the bed to get more comfortable.
