Fuck… what was he going to do without him? Adew asked himself, feeling defeated. He didn’t even care if he won or lost. The will to fight leeched out of him.

“Adew! Fucking wake up,” Xylo shouted from outside.

He couldn’t do it.

Adew raised his hand up to tap out, but Nylune’s voice suddenly filled his mind.

“You are strong enough to do it. Just trust yourself because I don’t have a weak alpha.”

He pulled air into his lungs, as he rammed his head back, coming into contact with the alpha’s nose. Wulfric screamed, letting go. And Adew went crazy on him. He had his opponent flat on his back within seconds, and he didn’t stop pummelling him.

The alpha sentinel shoved him off to check on Wulfric. Adew bounced on his feet, waiting for the alpha to get up as the alpha sentinel counted him out. He didn’t recover, and Adew won the fight.

The sphere went crazy. The gate opened, Lars and Xylo rushed in.

“Fuck, you did it!” Lars shouted, wrapping his arms around Adew. Xylo piled on and they jumped up and down. The roar in the cage was deafening. It got even louder as the alpha sentinel grabbed his arm and lifted it up. Adew looked around him, wishing only one person was there.

But he couldn’t be there. He’d failed him in the worst way. It grated on him that Nylune might be with another alpha.

He shoved his feelings away and tried to enjoy his win.

“Let’s go, before the crowd rush the sphere,” Lars said, pulling him towards the gate. They ran down the aisle, but Adew stopped when he heard a familiar voice. His entire body seized as he searched the crowd.

“Adew!” the voice screamed again.

Adew turned to his left and that was when he saw him. His heart skipped a beat as he thought it was Nylune, but he realised a second later that it was his cousin, Hazi.

“You were great in there,” he screamed.

Adew nodded and was about to walk down the aisle when Hazi said something he’d never thought he would hear.

“He misses you,” he said.

“What?”

“Come, Adew,” Lars said. “You’re going to cause a stampede. He looked at the groaning barriers between him and the crowd and continued to walk down the aisle.

“I need to talk to him,” he said as they walked through the double doors to the corridor that led to the dressing rooms. Holo images of fighters took up the walls all the way down. “Please, get him for me. I need to talk to him.”

“Fuck,” Lars said wiping his face. “Not this again.”

“I…”

“You need him. I know. You haven’t been the same since you left him,” he said with a sigh. “And you weren’t the same tonight. It doesn’t feel the same, doesn’t it?” Lars raised his hand and shook his head before he could say anything. “Don’t answer that. I’ll go get him for you. I hope you know what you’re doing. You might get hurt again if you’re not careful.”

“Thanks, man,” Adew said running down the corridor. He burst into the dressing room. Not bothering to get cleaned up, he quickly got dressed before Lars walked in with Nylune’s cousin and his alpha. Xylo and the team followed them. They high fived each other, happy with their first win. Media personnel rushed in too and threw questions at him while they took their images. Adew answered as quickly as he could, but he wanted to talk to Hazi. Lars noticed and stepped in to save him.

“Alright, let’s give Adew a moment to breathe. I’ll answer any questions you might have,” he said. He ushered them out of the dressing room.

“We’ll get going too,” Xylo said, looking between him, Hazi and the stern looking alpha.

“Did you mean what you said?” Adew asked as soon as they were alone.

“Yes. He’s all alone in that house. I know he misses you, even though things didn’t work out between you two,” he said.

“What do you mean he’s alone? I thought Dr Micha would find him another alpha,” Adew said with a frown. Was he still suffering?

“Another alpha? Nylune is alone. He’s never had an alpha since you left,” Hazi said.
