No. That can’t be right.
“But…”
“Go to him. He needs you, but he’s too nice to take what he wants,” Hazi rolled his eyes. “He’s my cousin and I love him, but sometimes I just want to strangle him. He thinks he doesn’t deserve to be happy because of what happened in the past. I understand where he’s coming from, but it wasn’t his fault. He won’t ruin your career if he’s with you, right?”
“What are you talking about?” Adew asked confused.
Hazi frowned. “The reason you two didn’t work out is because of what happened with Deltta Kohle, right? He didn’t want to ruin your life.”
Adew felt like he was dreaming. “I thought…the experiment didn’t work. That’s why he needed a new alpha.”
“Is that what he told you?”
Fuck. He lied to him.
“Yes. I don’t care what happened with Deltta Kohle.”
“You don’t?”
“Why would I care?” Adew shouted. Hazi’s alpha stepped close to the omega. “I need to go.”
Adew ran to his hover pod. He drifted out of the back gate to avoid traffic as he headed to Nylune’s house. When he got there, he couldn’t make himself go inside. He suddenly felt unsure of himself. What if he rejected him again?
Adew rubbed his eyes, tiredly.
Shit. What was he going to do? He needed an excuse for why he was there, although not the obvious one that he needed him, wanted him and loved him.
He fucking loved him, he thought, touching his chest as if he could make his heart ache less. And then it hit him… Calla.
Chapter 19
Nylune
Tonight was the night.
Nylune dragged the chair close to his pride and joy; the Ceroid Cactus - queen of the night. He’d been monitoring it closely, documenting the buds as they grew, and he was sure tonight they were going to bloom. The cactus bloomed once a year during a full moon. Nylune stared up into the sky at the twin moons in anticipation. They showered their grey light on the huge buds, making them look gorgeous. Nylune leaned close, counting the seconds. He heard a scratching sound, straightened and looked around him.
What the hell was that? Nylune tilted his head to listen but heard nothing. He turned back to the cactus, but the sound came again and this time his eyes fell on the wall.
No, it can’t be, he thought as he watched the soil rise as it was pushed from the other side.
Calla? he thought as the okie slid through the hole it had made. It ran to him and started rubbing its head against his side.
“What the hell?” Nylune said, arms raised. He wanted to bolt, but he held his fear inside. “What are you doing here?” he asked, but of course the okie couldn’t answer him. “Where is your alpha?”
“Right here,” Adew answered as he slid under the wall. Nylune watched him flick soil from his clothes and walk towards him.
Nylune swallowed as his body ignited at the sight of him. “What are you doing here?” he asked in a tiny voice.
Adew came to a stop in front of him. His nostrils flared as he clearly smelled his heat. “I missed you,” he said.
Nylune shook his head as tears filled his eyes. “Don’t do this,” he begged.
“There’s no other alpha, is there?” Adew asked, stepping closer. “You lied to me. What else did you lie about?”
“Stop.”
“You’re still sick. You’re suffering. Why?” Adew took his hand and pulled him closer. “Why did you push me away like that? You couldn’t have let me be there for you? You couldn’t have used me for the rest of our lives?””
