“You’ll see.” Lars drifted off. Adew knew the second they were on the airway where they were going.
“Why are we going to the health centre? I don’t have an appointment today.”
“I know. We’re here for a special training session. We’re doing things my way from this moment on,” he said. “All you need to do is follow instructions. Deal?”
“No,” Adew said. “I don’t like people telling me what to do.”
“Stubborn bastard.” Lars laughed. “You won’t be able to resist this. I promise.”
Adew doubted it, but he didn’t say anything. They drifted to the health centre in silence. Lars took him to Ajin’s office as soon as they arrived, and the therapist wasn’t alone.
“He’s not going to throw me out, right? I kind of got excited when you connected with me,” Xylo said, looking slightly uncomfortable.
“He won’t,” Lars said. “He needs this. Teaming up is the right step in the sphere’s direction.”
Xylo laughed. Adew stared at Lars as if he’d grown a second head. Ajin, ever cold, just stared at them.
“This is your way of cheering me up?”
“I’m going to do more than that. I’m going to get you back in the sphere and they are willing to help.”
Adew turned to the two alphas, not sure what to say. He’d fired Xylo because of his insecurities. He couldn’t stand for the alpha to see his broken body. And Ajin, he pissed off the alpha more times than he could count.
“I don’t know what to say,” Adew mumbled.
“Say you’ll listen to me for once,” Ajin groused. “That’s my only condition.”
“I will,” Adew promised.
“Perfect,” Lars clapped his hands excitedly. “Let’s get started.”
Chapter 17
Nylune
After Adew left, Nylune wandered around the house for days, dazed. He barely ate or slept. It was as if someone hit him on the head and ripped out his heart. Confusing, because he’d lived alone for five years. He had never felt like that before. He still had his garden, his work and Hazi. But none of that took away the emptiness inside his heart or filled the silence as they used to.
In a short space of time, he’d gotten used to Adew’s larger-than-life presence and Calla’s scratching claws as he followed him around.
He never thought he’d say this, but he missed the damn okie.
The only good thing about the experiment was that his prolonged heat wasn’t as intense. He moved from having his heat four times a day to twice a day. They were still hard because he was used to having an alpha’s cock inside him. Going back to the pleasuring bots felt wrong and utterly dissatisfying. He craved his alpha on a visceral level.
He needed him. But damn…he couldn’t have him. No matter how much he wanted him. He had his life to live. He was such a great alpha.
Hazi was mad at him for letting Adew go, especially when he told him that Adew was his true mate. Their conversation hadn’t gone well. His angry words still rang in his ears. Nylune stuck a finger in his ear as he remembered Hazi’s rant.
“Fuck, Nylune. You did it again,” he had screamed.
“I… please stop shouting at me.”
“I’m not. I’m just… I feel sorry for you, because you’re a fool, Nylune. When are you going to be selfish and take what you need? He’s your true mate. Do you think you’ll get another one?”
Of course not. And he didn’t want anyone else. Adew Pax was his alpha.
Nylune wondered what he was up to now.
Was he back to training, preparing for his first fight after his recovery? If there was anyone who could do it. It was him, Nylune thought proudly. Tears prickled his eyes and he pushed them away. He should get ready for his heat.
