“You think this is funny? I nearly died in there.”

“Good. Maybe now you’ll listen to your doctors.” Ajin turned to Dr Micha. “I’ll give him a sedative and something for his heat. Though the drugs won’t work as they should since he’s been in heat for a few hours, they will help take the edge off; give him time to make arrangements.”

Fuck. Adew rubbed the back of his neck, feeling strange at the thought of being with an omega. He wanted to refuse but handling his heat alone had ended in disaster. It was too intense, even for him.

“No,” Dr Micha barked.

No? Adew looked up at him. The alpha stared at him. His anger wasn’t hard to miss. He was pissed.

What was wrong with him?

Adew waited for him to say whatever was bothering him. He knew he could be a bitch sometimes, but Dr Micha had tolerated him so far, attributing his behaviour to his aggressive nature. He never went off on him.

The doctor stepped close to the bed. “We have a problem. Something that shouldn’t have happened, happened tonight. The omega who helped you is one of my patients. He’s probably in his house right now, suffering because he was here with you. How the hell did he end up coming to your house?”

Adew’s eyes fell on the door searching for Calla. He hadn’t seen him since help had arrived. Where the hell had he gone?

Dammit, Calla had better not be causing trouble again. “My okie… I think he went for help.”

“Shit…” Dr Micha said. “If you’d prepared for your heat like Ajin told you to, we wouldn’t be having this damn conversation. And my patient wouldn’t be suffering right now, because he had to come in here and help you.”

Adew stared at him, feeling there was something the alpha was not saying. The omega had seemed fine to him. Except… Adew’s nostrils flared as he remembered the sweet scent that had emanated from him. He swallowed a groan as his entire body tensed. The omega was in heat… and he’d smelled so heady… so good. And he was gorgeous too. Adew had been glad he was stuck on the floor, or he would have done something he would regret for the rest of his life.

As if on cue, his connector went off from somewhere. The sound filled the room. Dr Micha pulled it out of his pocket and gave it to him.

Adew stared at the code displayed on the screen, and silently moaned. Urim. He couldn’t fucking deal with him right now. He already felt like shit. He turned his connector off and focused on Dr Micha.

“Suffering? What do you mean he’s suffering because he was here with me?”

“He suffers from prolonged heat, and he caught your scent. You can imagine what that’s doing to him right now. An alpha’s scent is his weakness. We were in the process of starting his healing with another alpha, but since he caught your scent, I’m not sure that would work.” Dr Micha rubbed his face, looking suddenly tired. He walked to the window and stared outside.

Adew watched him. He had a feeling about where the fucking conversation was going. But he needed him to spell it out. “What are you trying to tell me?”

“He needs an alpha,” Dr Micha turned and stared at him. “And you are it.”

“No.” The omega might have smelled amazing, but he wasn’t fucking him.

“I don’t think you’re in a position to say that,” the doctor said. “We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for him. You’d still be stuck on that floor, causing irrevocable damage to your body. So, swallow your damn pride and help someone else.”

Shit… Adew silently groaned. “How long?” he gritted out.

“You don’t have to do it if you don’t want to,” the omega said suddenly from the doorway of Adew’s bedroom. Calla stood beside him. The okie was practically attached to the omega’s hip with the way he was standing so close to him. Adew’s eyes ran the length of him, coming to a stop on his face. He held his breath as he took in his gorgeous face. He hadn’t been mistaken the first time: the omega was breath-taking, with his sandy brown hair, rosy lips, and grey eyes. Eyes that were full of fire as they stared at him.

He stood straight and tall. His gaze hard, and his demeanour challenging. Adew felt a growl bubble inside him, responding in kind. Did he think he could challenge him?

“I’m not going to beg you to help me.”

“Nylune?” Dr Micha said softly.

The omega’s body softened as he responded to the alpha. Adew looked from one to the other. He didn’t like that the omega responded to the doctor like that. Adew frowned confused.

“I’m fine, Dr Micha,” he said, then he stared at Adew, the hard edge back in his eyes. Was he challenging him again? The urge to tame him and show him who was alpha filled him. “Keep your damn okie out of my yard. I won’t warn you again,” the omega snarled at him, and then walked out of the room.

“Which yard is that?” Adew asked, stopping him in his tracks. He wanted to piss him off further. He knew which yard he was talking about. His okie had dug a huge ass hole underneath his wall.

“Ask your damn okie,” the omega threw over his shoulder, and walked out of the room.

Adew laughed. “I would, if he could talk.”
