“Where?” he asked.

Roc ran his fingers over the screens on his workstation. A map of the planet appeared on the large monitor. A tiny dot pulsed, moving as the large map shrank to a small town in the rural area.

“Beon?” Makar asked, turning to Roc. “Are you sure that’s where he is? In some rural area where there’s nothing.”

“Yeah. That’s where he is,” Roc said, excitement shining in his eyes. He found his archnemesis. “I lured him in. He got too curious for his own good. He mistakenly let me find him. He has the most complicated firewalls I’ve ever seen. I…”

“I’m sure he does,” Makar interrupted. “Do you have his exact location?”

“Yes,” Roc turned to his screens.

“Go get him,” Makar turned to Cali and Iror. The alphas filed out of the room. He turned his hard gaze on Hym, narrowing them a little. “You look different.”

“I do? In what way?” he asked.

“I don’t know. You look settled, less edgy. I can't feel your aggression anymore,” his commander stepped close to him and sniffed.

He frowned.

Did he pick up Jamue’s scent on him?

Probably.

The omega touched him, exploring his body throughout his heat. He could still feel his innocent touches on his skin.

“How is your companion omega? Is everything going well between you two?”

“Yes.”

“I’m glad,” he slapped him on his back. “Once Cali and Iror come back they’ll brief you on what we have so far. Hopefully, we'd have solved this shit before the inauguration.”

“You think they’ll try to attack the alpha king again?”

“I don’t know. We didn’t think anyone would attack him the first time. But he must have pissed off a lot of people by exposing Pharyi.”

“But why kill Pharyi? It doesn’t make sense.”

He’d been trying to figure it out. He came up with two conclusions: one, the evidence they found on Pharyi was the tip of a very dirty molehill. Two, there were other very important people involved in this shit.

“I’m sure other alphas are involved. They needed to shut him up and cover their tracks,” Makar said, voicing his thoughts. “I hope the hacker will give us an idea of what we’re dealing with.”

Hym hoped so too.

“Go home. I’ll call you in once they return,” Makar said.

Hym waved to Makar and made his way to his pod. He drifted out, heading to the council offices.

“Let's talk before we get something to eat,” Tarymn said, pointing him to a chair in front of his desk as soon as he arrived. He handed him a data reader with a chip already inserted in the slot.

It was the report.

Hym sat up straight.

The report was straightforward. Their findings were similar to theirs - a hacker disabled their security system and unlocked only Pharyi’s cell so unknown alphas could kill him by decapitation. He erased footage of that day, leaving no evidence behind.

“We have nothing,” Tarymn said.

“The report sounds about right. Roc found the hacker. Makar sent Cali and Iror to pick him up,” he said, staring at the e-reader thoughtfully.
