“Oh, baby, what’s wrong?” he asked, tightening his arms around him. “Did something happen last night? Nava said you were not here when he arrived this morning.”
“Sirhe took me home,” he mumbled.
“What?” Mac pulled back to stare at him.
More tears slid down his cheeks. Mac took his hand and dragged him upstairs. He sat him down on the couch. “Tell me what happened.”
Jamue told him everything, including the strange conversation he overheard.
No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t remember anything strange happening to him five years ago.
“You have no idea what could have happened?” Mac asked.
“No. It doesn’t matter anyway. I’m going to get bonded soon. We have to sell the furniture since we don't need it," Jamue said, looking around. They could have had the perfect home. The space was well-lit and airy; the smell of their delicious spirits infused the air. They could have been happy here.
Jamue smiled sadly.
“You’re not giving up, are you?”
He didn’t want to.
“Jamue?”
“What can I do?” Jamue asked helplessly.
Mac got up and pulled him to his feet. He dragged him downstairs and walked to his workstation. He turned it on and waited impatiently for it to boot up.
Once it was done, he navigated to the Omega Placement Agency. He stepped back for Jamue to log into the site. Jamue was surprised his profile was still active. He watched as Mac clicked on the list of available jobs.
“It won’t work, Mac. Do you know how hard it is to get a job?"
"I know. We never got one, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't try."
"We tried. And got nothing," Jamue said. He would have loved to get a job back then. But he wasn't that lucky. "What's different now?"
“Now you're desperate. We should try everything to get the authorities off your back. If this fails, we'll think of something else,” Mac said, looking through the list of jobs. He clicked on one. Jamue read through the description.

Jamue bit the inside of his mouth.
He could do it all except touch the alpha.
He stared at the last point and felt a seed of hope sprout deep inside him.
