“You must have forgotten where you live. On this planet, omegas are not allowed to gallivant around the planet alone. Who do you think made that happen? Do you think you are so special you can live your life freely without someone paving your way? The authorities will be at your door as soon as your dad and I stop supporting you.”
What?
They’ve been there all along.
“My work?”
“You don’t have to work, Jamue. Your alpha is from one of the wealthiest families on the planet. You’ll never want for anything.”
No.
He’d worked hard to get here.
“Please, don’t take my work away from me. Please, father. It's everything to me,” Jamue reached for him, tears running down his face. His father’s face softened slightly.
“Fine. Your driver will pick you up from here and then take you to work. Pack your things and bring them home. You’ll stay here until you get bonded.” He pulled away from his hold and walked out of the room.
The door closed behind him. Jamue stared at it, too stunned to move. His knees buckled. He forced himself to move to the bed before his knees gave out. He dropped down on it and silently cried.
“Jamue, are you asleep?” his dad asked, opening the door.
Jamue wiped his eyes, swallowing his tears.
“Not yet,” he said, sitting up.
His father walked to the bed and sat close to him. Jamue lasted a mere second before he threw himself into the alpha’s arms. His dad wrapped his arms around him, his soothing scent filling the room. Jamue buried his face into his chest and cried like a child. He was breaking apart inside, and no one seemed to care.
“Dad,” he whimpered. “I really can’t bond with him. I’m sorry.”
“Shhh…let’s not talk about that now,” he said softly, smoothing his hand down his back. Jamue pulled back and stared at him. His dad smiled. “Are you okay?”
Jamue shook his head.
His father sighed and got to his feet.
“You should get some rest,” he said.
Jamue nodded and lay down. He heard the door close behind him. Jamue sniffled, unable to hold his tears back. He buried his face in his pillow and cried himself to sleep.
Chapter 9
Jamue
“Are you okay?” Mac asked as he walked through the door.
Jamue rubbed his eyes. He probably looked like death.
Crying himself to sleep was the worst decision he’d ever made. It was right up there with listening to Sirhe and refusing to bond with Master Rosh five years ago. He could have saved himself all the heartache if he had stayed - sickness or no sickness.
He would have gotten used to it by now - at least he hoped so.
But he wouldn’t have met Mac.
The omega was the best thing in his life. Mac walked to him and pulled him into a hug.
Tears filled his eyes. Jamue tried to push them away, he’d cried enough last night, but they got the better of him.
He cried against Mac’s massive shoulder.
