His father looked horrified. “Do you know the kind of backlash we would receive? He could have found another omega, and we wasted his time. No. You must do it, now.”

“Father, please. I can’t do it,” he begged. His stomach chose that moment to push every piece of morsel he’d consumed to his throat. Jamue snatched his arm from his grip and ran out of the room.

“Jamue?” Sirhe called.

He didn’t stop. He ran up the stairs to his old room. He crushed through the door, hand pressed to his mouth. He entered the washroom and pulled the waste bot close before he lost his dinner.

“Jamue?” he heard Sirhe behind him. “Shit,” he said before he stormed out of the room.

Jamue’s entire body shook as he heaved, but nothing came out. He pushed the waste bot away and wiped his mouth.

He made his way downstairs.

He wished he could leave. His driver would come and pick him up if he connected with him. But he couldn’t just leave. His father taught him better than that. He walked to the cooking station but stopped when he heard them arguing inside.

“This is getting out of hand,” Sirhe said.

“You think I don’t know that? It’s been five years... five long years of smiling and placating Master Rosh’s family. I’ve reached my limit. Go up there and talk some sense into him, Sirhe,” his father said.

“We can’t force him. It’s his choice whether he wants to accept the alpha or not.” Sirhe loudly sighed. “We promised never to talk about this, but I think we should consider what happened.”

The room went deathly silent.

Jamue held his breath as he waited for someone to say something. Did they know what was wrong with him?

“If we promised never to talk about it, why are you bringing it up now?” his father asked quietly.

Jamue took a step back. That was his lethal voice. Things tended to get dangerous when he spoke like that.

Sirhe cleared his throat. “I think we should consider that…”

“Don’t you dare say it, Sirhe!” his father shouted.

“Calm down, Isa,” his dad said softly.

“No. I will not calm down. It’s all his fault. Him and that medical centre of his ruined everything five years ago. Don’t you dare make it worse now. Your brother came out of what happened to him fine. He just needs to accept his bond with Master Rosh. There’s nothing more to talk about. And you better keep your mouth shut about this. If any of this comes out, it will ruin us. If you love your brother, you’ll do as I say and take responsibility for what happened.”

Jamue stared at the door, stunned.

What happened to him five years ago?

“Father.”

“No! I’m done talking.”

Jamue heard movement from inside. He ran to his room.

What was that? Jamue asked himself, shaking.

A slight knock sounded on the door before it was opened.

Jamue stared at his father.

Red patches tinted his skin. He was mad.

“Good, you’re in here. Good night then,” he said, reaching for the door handle.

“What? I’m not staying here. Sirhe needs to take me home.” Jamue moved to walk out of the door, but his father blocked his way.
