“You and me? I don’t know what we are,” Makar said. He got to his feet and rounded the desk. “It was unfair what happened to you five years ago. I shouldn’t have sent you out there with Thron alone. We should have waited for more intel and dealt with the naturalist differently. I always felt guilty about that. But I can’t sacrifice everything I worked hard for just because I'm sorry. Whatever arrangement you have with that omega, end it.”

Hym’s wolf growled deep inside.

“And if I don’t?”

“Then you can’t be one of my alphas anymore,” he said, walking to the door. “Excuse me.”

Hym watched him walk out of the room.

“Fuck!” he screamed. “I’m not letting him go. Never.” He said to the empty room before he walked out in search of his mate.

He found him outside the interrogation room.

He looked at him with needy eyes before he looked away.

Hym stopped in front of him. His scent hit him in a way he hadn’t experienced before.

Mine, he wanted to shout. He grasped the hem of his shirt and dragged him close. He gasped as his body met his.

“Why are you being shy suddenly?” he asked darkly. The omega shivered against him. Hym tightened his hold.

I found you, he thought, wrapping his arms around him. His heart hammered hard in his chest. His hand trembled as he lifted it to touch his cheek.

A throat cleared next to them. Hym looked at Makar. He gritted his teeth. He wanted to tell him to fuck off but didn't.

“The alpha king is on his way. We should get back to work.”

Fuck.

Hym stared at Jamue. They needed to talk. But he needed time to explain everything to him. To tell him what happened. He needed to find out about the alpha his family chose for him.

His wolf growled deep inside him. He was going to fucking kill the alpha.

And Hym would let him.

“Hym?”

“Yeah,” Hym said gruffly. Makar mumbled something under his breath and left him there. Hym ignored him and turned to his mate.

His mate. Hym couldn’t believe his dream omega stood before him.

I’ve been going crazy without you, baby, he thought, pulling him into a tight hug again. He had so much to say. But this wasn’t the time or place. “You and I have to talk. Go home and wait for me. I’ll be there as soon as I can,” he whispered. He kissed his cheek, running his fingers over his mark softly.

“What do you want to talk about? Tell me?”

Were those tears in his eyes?

“Shhh, baby. What I have to say might confuse you. And I don’t want that.” Hym leaned closer, his lips hovering over his. A possessive feeling swirled inside him. “Go, baby. We’ll talk when I get there.”

“Okay,” Jamue said sweetly. He leaned into him for a second and then stepped away. Hym watched him leave and then turned to follow Makar to the interrogation room.

“He’s not talking,” Roc announced as soon as he reached the door. He opened it for him and stepped inside. The hacker sat at the steel table with his brother. The omega gave him a lethal look as he leaned against the wall and watched him. Makar pulled out a chair opposite them and sat down.

“You have no right to look at me like that,” Hym snapped impatiently. The omega blenched and looked down at his hands. Mac wrapped an arm around him defensively.

“He didn’t know what he was doing,” Mac said.

Roc laughed at the door. “I doubt that.”
