It wasn’t?

“Did he undergo memory therapy?” Hym asked, horrified.

He remembered the pain and the confusion after every session.

They put him through that!

Hym shoved to his feet as anger surged inside him.

“He belonged to another alpha, of course, he went through memory therapy. The family wanted to keep you away from him,” Makar said. “How the fuck did you meet now?”

He belonged to another alpha.

Hym stared at Makar unseeing. Was that the reason why he came to him with nothing? Did he run away from him? Was Jamue keeping the alpha a secret? He asked to keep him a secret from his family. Was he hiding something from him?

No. The omega was skittish. He could barely stand his touch when they first met, even though he was his true mate. He had to get him used to his touch, to his scent.

But he couldn’t dismiss what Makar was saying.

Fuck.

Hym paced around the office, agitated.

“He’s not bonded. He doesn’t have a claiming mark.”

“He doesn’t have yours either. His brother took care of that,” Makar said. “Either way, it doesn’t matter. Alphas and omegas can get bonded without the alpha marking his omega, you know that.”

He did.

“He’s mine,” Hym declared.

“No. He’s not. You met him by mistake back then. And I don't understand how you met each other now. We’ve been keeping this a secret for a long time. It’s not going to come out now.”

Hym growled. “Why not?”

“I put Alpha Force on the line and swore to them that nothing from that night will ever come to light. And I'll keep you the fuck away from him,” Makar said. “This can’t come out, Hym. You and him or not meant to be.”

The fuck?

“Says who?”

“His family. His parents threatened to sue us if anything ever came out. And I’m afraid they will if you continue to be with him.”

“He’s my mate. Doesn’t that mean anything?”

Makar shook his head. “Did he recognize you as his mate when you two met? Did you recognize him?”

No.

“You didn’t, right? They asked for that too, looked for the best therapist and doctor's on the planet. They made sure you will never recognize each other,” Makar said. “They didn’t want you for him.”

“So, they were going to sell him off to some rich alpha?”

Makar shrugged. “It’s the way of life. The wealthy stick with their kind, while the poor do the same.”

“And you and I, where do we fit in that scenario?”

Makar sighed. They were both from wealthy families, but they left that life to do this…to keep their planet safe. Makar used his family wealth to run Alpha Force. He believed in justice for all.
