Mac laughed. “You’re a possessive little omega.”
The hover pod arrived late in the evening. Jamue jumped to his feet before Mac could; he was at the door in seconds. Mac stared at the immaculately dressed beta, bowing slightly as he stared down at Jamue. A strange feeling tightened his stomach.
What if he chose Jamue over him? He didn’t know who he was picking up after all.
It was a ridiculous thought to have, but he thought it all the same. Jamue was the likely choice, while he was not. Mac shoved the ridiculous thought out of his mind. Griean probably told him who he was.
The beta raised his head and stared at him.
“Hi, my name is Yarr. I’m here to escort you to the capital,” he said.
“I’ll get my things.” Mac walked to his room. He returned a few seconds later. “I need to take my friend to the commune house. Do you mind?”
“Not at all.”
Mac took Jamue’s hand, and they walked out. The door clicked shut, locking automatically.
They got into the waiting hover pod. Yarr drifted towards the commune house.
Jamue's fingers tightened around his hand the closer they got to the commune house.
“I’ll be fine,” Mac whispered to Jamue.
“I know. I’m just...never mind,” he said just as the pod drifted to a stop close enough to the commune house. Jamue got out reluctantly.
They waited long enough to make sure he was safely inside the house. Yarr drifted down the airway, leaving their little town behind.
Mac took a deep breath and settled in for the long trip. He tried to imagine the alpha waiting for him, but he was too nervous. Mac hoped the alpha liked him a little.
Well, he hoped he liked him long enough to fuck him.
A shiver went through him in anticipation.
He might not like you, don’t get ahead of yourself, Mac told himself, bringing his thoughts to a halt.
They stopped a few times along the airway to rest and eat. Yarr was the best host. He made sure he was comfortable in the pod. And before he knew it, they were in the capital. Mac looked around him in awe. He’d seen parts of the capital on the viewer but paid it no mind because of how people usually stared at him. The city was too big and full of people; he'd be stared at every minute of every day. He couldn't handle that. But looking at it now, he wished he'd given it some attention. The tall buildings, gleaming lights and the labyrinth of tubes housing the airways were overwhelming. It looked like organised chaos that could go off-kelter any second.
Yarr navigated through the maze of airways and drifted towards a familiar area of the capital, the national district.
Mac’s mouth dropped open when the hover pod stopped in front of the alpha king’s house.
“Uhh...what are we doing here?” he asked, turning to the beta. “I thought we were going to see my brother?”
“He’s inside." Yarr picked up his packsack and got out of the pod. Mac reached for it, but Yarr shook his head, carrying it inside. He’d seen the house on the viewer like everyone else on the planet. It was beautiful and huge.
But why was he standing in it?
“This way." Yarr walked him deeper into the house towards the residential area where the alpha king lived.
Mac swallowed. The alpha in need wasn’t the alpha king, right?
Mac nervously came to a stop in front of a door. Yarr opened the door and stepped aside for him to walk in. Mac wasn’t sure he could.
What the fuck did Griean get him into?
Before he could move, Griean rushed to the door.
“Thank you, Yarr,” Griean said, pulling him inside. The door closed behind them. “Oh Mac, I missed you. You should have visited a long time ago.”
