“You’re on vacation another couple of days. Tequila is on the table.” Bekka winked at her, teasing. “And on me. On your fingers.”

She laughed, but Bekka had opened a door yesterday, and she didn’t know what to do. Love was a very big word right now. The only thing she knew for sure was she didn’t want Bekka to get hurt. “You might be better on crutches drunk. We should go back down there tonight.”

“Works for me. I don’t have any clients for another two days.” Bekka’s dark hair framed her face, like a thunder-storm before it broke.

“I haven’t even checked my email once.”Since we started…this. That seemed like a relevant detail. Something she should probably say out loud but didn’t have the courage.

Oh, but did Bekka should check hers?

“Did we get the Victorian?”

“Yep. We have to run down and pick up the keys tomorrow. I signed the rental agreement when you were in the bathroom.” Beks grinned at her. “Hopefully I spelled my name right.”

“Hopefully?” She started laughing. “I’ll Venmo you the rent. I can’t believe we’re staying.” It might be nice. Working a little, just hanging out. “We can go to all the little restaurants, or cook in, walk to the coffee place in the morning…”

“I love the croissants there. I’m going to have to crutch everywhere so I can fit in my jeans.” Beks rolled up and stretched tall. All those pretty curves were displayed to perfection, from the roll of her hip to the way her pretty full breasts were crowned with pink nipples hardened in the cool air.

Mari reached out and ran her fingers down the side of one perfect breast. “So pretty.” Beks was the best cure for her hangover.

Oh, that nipple just tightened for her.

“You say the nicest things, Mari. You make me want to sing.”

She sat up, slipped an arm around Beks. “I just want you to know. I’m in a weird place but I appreciate you. I’m really enjoying this.”

“Good.” Beks caught her gaze. “You don’t have to say that you love me, you know? You aren’t going to hurt my feelings. It’s only been a couple of days. I’ve been in love with you forever, and I’m impulsive. You are in the clear.”

“Forever?” Beks was so honest. She wasn’t even sure she wanted to be in the clear.

“Yeah. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’ve had amazing lovers. I’ve had affairs and relationships, but you’re my one that got away.”

“Me? I was kind of awful.” Maybe not specifically to Beks but just generally young and stupid. She definitely hadn’t appreciated Bekka’s spirit.

“You were driven, and I was scared and flighty. I had a ton of therapy, and I had to accept that you might never like the person that I was becoming.” Beks shrugged, but the motion didn’t read defensive somehow. “And I may never have liked the person you wanted to become. But I do.”

“I do too. The second I saw you again I assumed I wouldn’t, but I was wrong.” Beks wasn’t scared or flighty. She was creative and insightful. She was free spirited and honest.

“Thank you.” That smile—open and loving and beautiful?—that was worth a fortune. She’d never seen anything so fine.

She caught Bekka’s chin with one finger and turned her head for a short kiss. “What should we do today?”

“Don’t we have a—”

Marissa’s phone started ringing, “Bitch” by Meredith Brooks sounding. Damn. The ex.

She ignored it. Whatever that was about could wait, she was in bed with her new girlfriend. Her new, hot girlfriend, thank you very much. Her new, hot, not cheating on her girlfriend.

The bitch in question could leave a voicemail.

“Mmm…” Beks reached over and killed the sound. “Love that song, but it’s not on our list, hmm?”

“Nope. That’s just someone I used to know. I can’t even imagine what she could want.”

Beks shot her an evil fucking grin. “I bet I can.”

“What? Apologize? Ask me to come back? Booty call?” She shook her head. “Please. She would never. She’s a coward.”

“And a moron. Luckily for you, I am neither, right?”
