“You are brave and beautiful, way more fun, and smarter than I am.”
Beks blinked at her. “I—Thanks. Seriously.”
She took Bekka’s hand and kissed it. “So what were you saying we’re supposed to do today?”
Her phone started to ring again, the sound making them both jump.
“Ugh. Hand it to me?” Beks handed her the phone and Marissa answered it. “Hello?”
“Marissa! You haven’t answered my texts! I’ve been worried!”
Worried? Seriously? Josie had actually been texting her several times a day. They were incoherent and useless, and she’d deleted them all as they’d come in. She looked at Beks and shrugged. “I’m not answering your texts because you dumped me, Josie.”
“I had a change of heart. You wowed me, with all that you did to keep me.”
Oh, bullshit.
“I’m sorry, Josie, I’ve moved on. I’m also not that stupid.” She needed to hang up. This was not a conversation she wanted to have.
“Moved on? Movedon?”
Wait. Was she hearing Josie’s voice in her phone and in the hallway? Was that possible?
“How do you move on from I want to marry you?”
She frowned at Beks and mouthed, “Is she here?”
Beks nodded, slowly pointing at the suite door.
What the actual fuck? She slipped out of bed to find her robe. “You cheated on me and told me you were in love with someone else. That kind of makes the heart grow cold, Josie.”
“Not to mention the basic creep factor,” Beks whispered, snagging a pair of sweatpants.
“So creepy,” she mouthed back, tying her robe. “I’m hanging up, Josie.”
“I want to make things up to you, baby.”
She hung up the phone, debating whether to open the suite door.
Bekka bit her bottom lip, holding in the giggles. “I’m going to call my brother.”
“Reinforcements. That’s a great idea.” How did Josie even know what room they were in? “I think you should go home, Josie,” she called through the door.
“Can’t we just talk? Have a drink? One drink?”
“It’s…oh.” Okay, looking at the clock, she was surprised to find it was much later in the day than she thought it was, but still a little early for a drink. “There’s really nothing to talk about.”
This was bad though. Not just because it was insane for Josie to show up, but it was making her feel…bad. Angry. Upset. How dare Josie just show up here?
“Go home, Josie. Just go.”
“No. I love you, and I want to do it. I want to marry you. You loved me enough to ask me, didn’t you?”
Beks moved toward the unused second bedroom, eyes wide.
That was enough. She didn’t want a scene in the hallway. She went to the door and tugged it open. “Get in here.” She stepped out of the way so Josie could come inside and closed the door behind her. “Have you lost your mind?”
“Have you? This was going to be our honeymoon! It still could be.”
