“I guess that makes it my word against yours,” she said with confidence she shouldn’t have.
“So you weren’t planning on meeting someone after you got the kid?”
Mitzie whipped her head in Sean’s direction with a look of utter shock on her face. She quickly masked it, but not before everyone watching saw it, including Sean. “No,” she huffed. “Why would you even think that?”
“Because it’s fucking true,” Sean said flatly.
“It is not.”
“I’m just saying, if you were planning something with someone, now’d be the time to place all the blame on them. You seem to be pretty good at that.”
“I ain’t blamed anyone for anything.”
“You’re blaming me right fucking now! Like you’re completely innocent in all of this.”
“I am completely innocent.”
“Bet my dad would disagree.”
Mitzie narrowed her eyes and studied Sean. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“It means exactly what you think it means.”
“You don’t know anything,” Mitzie said weakly.
“That little shit was holding out on us,” Trey whispered.
“I don’t know. I think he’s bluffing.” And I did. By the way Sean was blubbering and sharing everything he had to share to save his ass the moment he could made me think he’d told us all he knew.
“I know enough to save my ass and leave yours in its place. And yes, Mitzie, they are going to kill you. Why wouldn’t they? No one’s looking for you, and no one’s going to miss you.”
“Your dad will.”
“My dad hates you.”
Mitzie’s eyes widened in shock. “What?” she asked in disbelief.
“You heard me. He hates you. Which means there’s a reason he’s keeping you around.”
“You know why he keeps me around.”
“It’s not for your dried-up old cunt,” Sean laughed. “It was to keep tabs on you because he knew what you were up to.”
Mitzie tried to shift in her seat and glanced around the room nervously.
Sean leaned as close as he could to Mitzie and lowered his voice. “Even you’re not stupid enough to try kidnapping a kid with no guaranteed ransom.”
“Those bikers would’ve paid the ransom,” she insisted, but Sean ignored her words and continued on.
“Where were you taking the kid?”
Once again, Mitzie pressed her lips together and shook her head. I might have laughed at her display if they weren’t talking about the precious little girl who’d stolen a piece of my heart in the short time I’d known her.
“Come on, Mitzie. Think about it. If I can figure it out, it won’t be long before they do. And then you’ve got nothing to bargain with.”
When Mitzie remained silent for several minutes, Sean continued. “You’re the only one who can get us out of here and clear my dad’s name. Then, he’ll owe you.”
“So what? He doesn’t have shit. That’s how we got into this mess to start with.”
