“It’s been a while, then,” Hazel said, misunderstanding what she meant. “I remember when I was single. I went through a drought that lasted nearly a year. Those were the worst few months of my life. My vibrator got a massive workout.”
“No,” Chloe fiddled with the strap of her dress on her shoulder, “I haven’t had sex atall.” Finally, her biggest and most embarrassing secret was out; she waited for her friends’ shocked reactions.
“You’re kidding, right?” Blair asked with a giggle.
Chloe shook her head and rubbed her sweaty palms on her thighs.
“You’ve never had sex?” Hazel asked in a high-pitched tone.
“Shhh.” Even though they were in a nightclub with music blaring, Chloe swung her head over her shoulders to make sure no one overheard. She leaned forward and said loud enough for only her friends to hear, “No, I’ve never had sex.”
“And there is nothing wrong with that, right?” Daniela glared at the other two pointedly.
“Of course not,” Hazel said quickly under Daniela’s gimlet gaze.
“So the real question is: ‘Why haven’t you?’” Blair said.
“I told you how things got in the way of having a boyfriend or even a brief relationship.” She sighed in frustration. “It’s one of the reasons why I moved here. I’m ready to punch that V-card. I’m here to find the right guy.”
“The right guy?” Blair asked. “Whose first time has ever been with theright guy? Or the right person,” she amended, glancing at Hazel and Daniela. “You’ve seriously waited this long for him to have sex? Not that there’s anything wrong with waiting for someone special. In fact, I think that’s kinda sweet. It’s just not something you hear very often from someone your age.”.
Chloe twisted the ring on her finger. “I know it’s weird, but it’s not like I’ve gone out of my way to avoid having sex.” Except if she was honest with herself, only one person had made her crave that level of intimacy. But that had to be a fluke, right? Happenstance.
“It is a little strange,” Hazel said. “Especially since you aren’t a super-duper conservative.”
“The question is, do you want to have sex?” Daniela fiddled with her napkin. “It’s okay if you don’t.”
“Believe me, I want to have sex.” God, she really, really did.
“This is a problem that can easily be fixed.” Blair crooked her finger at someone near the bar.
“If you call that guy back, I swear I won’t talk to you again,” Chloe growled.
Blair waved a hand. “Forget about him. You can do so much better.”
A woman walked toward them, a small smile on her lips.
“Um, I don’t bat for the same team,” Chloe said in case her friend wanted her to experiment.
Hazel winked. “You might like it.”
As the woman joined them at their table, Chloe noticed a notepad in her hand. Her shoulders sagged as she breathed out a long sigh of relief. She wasn’t a hookup, but instead was a waitress.
“What can I get you?” the waitress asked.
“We’ll have two shots of screaming orgasms each, please. Actually, make that three each,” Blair said. The waitress nodded and left to get their order. “Hopefully, it won’t be the alcohol that gives you one tonight.” She wiggled her eyebrows at Chloe. “But just in case…”
“Three! What are you trying to do to me?” Chloe slapped a hand on the table. They might need to carry her out of the club.
“I’m trying to loosen you up. It’s your birthday. You need to have fun. Dance with hot guys. Then maybe you’ll pick a nice one to end your thirty-year drought with,” Blair said as if they were talking about having chocolate cake after a long diet.
“Blair, I’m not having sex with some guy I meet at a club.”
“Why not? You said yourself you wanted to have sex—”
Chloe cut her off. “Yes, with someone it means something with.”
“And you will,” Blair soothed. “In the meantime, you need to discover how your vagina works. What you like and what you don’t like. You don’t want to meet the man of your dreams and then screw it all up because you don’t know where to have him put his dick.”
