My words seem to make her cry harder. She has been holding everything in for so long and handling everything on her own. I will help her see that she’s not alone anymore. I don’t know how long we sit there as I hold her, but I wouldn’t be anywhere else.

I make a promise in my head that I will find this guy and make him pay for putting my bride through this pain.

There won’t be anywhere he can hide from me.

Chapter Six

Serenity

When I wake up, I’m still very tired. I open my eyes and find myself in a bed. My head is on Silas’ chest, and he’s humming a song and running his fingers through my hair. It feels soothing, and I feel myself let out a small smile.

It scares me how safe I feel in this moment.

It had been 11 years since I had let anyone get close to me. I was so scared I would lose anyone else, especially since I didn’t know why or who was after me. I couldn’t risk anyone else getting hurt.

Could this be different though? Surely, a son of Lucifer would be difficult to kill.

How do I let someone in after being alone for so long?

I must have fallen asleep on his lap when I was crying because I don’t recall anything after that.

I move my head to look up at him, and he looks down at me and smiles softly.

With only a glance, he has already made my heart pound harder in my chest.

Fuck, my heart is already in trouble. I don’t know if I’m ready for this. I feel the pull towards this man, but my mind wants to get out and run despite knowing that running would be useless with this bond we have.

Why is something that could potentially be so good always be so scary to let yourself have?

“Did you get enough rest?” he asks me softly.

“I still feel really tired, but I’m also hungry,” I admit.

“Let me get you a snack. Why don’t you put on some comfy clothes, and we can relax and watch a movie,” he says before moving to get up. Reluctantly, I get up off of him.

“Do you even watch movies?” I ask curiously.

He chuckles. “Yes, I watch movies. Got to have something to do in my down time.”

“Oh,” I whisper, making him chuckle again before leaving the room.

I shake my head at myself and head to a door where I hope there is a washroom. When I open it, it turns out to be a massive closet; my mouth drops open just looking at it.

I decide to grab myself one of Silas’ t-shirts. He did tell me to get comfortable, after all. When I finally make my pick, I walk back out of the closet and towards another door.

When I open that door, there are different kinds of items that seem to form a collection. It looks like there’s stuff throughout the ages in this room. That is pretty cool. I will need to check this out later.

I need to find the washroom before I have to just squat in the corner of the room.

When I return to Silas’ room, Silas is putting a tray on the bed and turns to see me. He looks over in surprise at the room I just came from.

“Did you want a tour?” he asks, realizing he never gave me one of what he hopes to be my home.

“As great as that would be, I would settle for which door the washroom would be,” I say with an embarrassed laugh.

“Oh baby, I’m sorry. I should have told you where it was,” he says and points to the room I have been looking for.

I practically run into the room and shut the door.
