I stayed firmly in my seat however, unable to move and to nose about, maybe it would have opened the doors to knowing about Darius, but as I was a private person myself, I didn’t feel it was right, at least for the moment.
When he returned, he had a small clear cosmetic bag filled with feminine products as well as a razor, toothbrush, and other things, and handed it to me.
“I don’t ever have guests, but I was always taught to be prepared, just in case.”
“Ah, so you might have a bag for guys then hidden away?”
He rubbed the back of his neck and laughed a little. This was the first time he appeared to be relaxed in all our encounters, and perhaps it was because we were in his own home, and I appeared defenceless, but I had already planned my escape should I need one.
“I’ve set the bathroom up if you want to take a shower because between you and me, you stink.”
He joked, laughing as he headed towards the kitchen area, and poured himself another drink. My guard was still up as I wasn’t sure if I could still trust him but for the moment, I would have to suck it up and just deal.
Pushing the bathroom door open, I was greeted to the smell of fresh rain and cotton, the bathroom decorated in the same black obsidian marble to the living room and the room was spotless, as if no one ever used it.
Going to lock the door, it appeared there was no lock, and I rolled my eyes. Hopefully, he would be a gentleman, and wouldn’t walk in while I washed.
The warm water hit my skin and I observed the newly formed bruises and cuts that had appeared on my body since the fight, some older yellowing bruises, and others dark purple, almost black. My body was sore and stiff, and I hurt immensely.
Even though I was stronger than most humans and I healed a lot quicker, I still got aches, pains, and I could get badly hurt. The last few weeks were proof of that, I needed to work more on my skills and train my body to heal better.
This was my fault, I allowed people, creatures, to get the jump on me more than once recently, my mind was clouded, and I wasn’t paying as much attention as I should have been.
I closed my eyes and allowed the hot water to soothe my body before turning it off and wondering about Darius for a second. I was surprised he didn’t try to sneakily join me, and a part of me, very deep down and buried, was a little disappointed.
Wrapping the towel around myself, I looked in the large wall mirror above the two sinks, why exactly does one person need two sinks?I examined my face fully, a nice graze was on my right cheek, my left eyebrow was cut a little, and the scar on my collarbone was throbbing more than usual.
“Who did that to you?”
His voice surprised me as he leaned against the bathroom door frame, shirtless with black jogging bottoms sitting nicely on his hips. I didn’t even hear him open the door and I was grateful the towel was tightly wrapped around me.
“Which one?”
“This one.”
He cleared the space between us and reached out to touch the scar on my collarbone, and I shivered slightly under his touch. I took a small step back as he retracted his hand and crossed his arms.
“My first mission, before I took over. Vamp got the better of me.”
“Did he survive?” His eyes turned a little dark as he looked at me.
“He got away, but I caught him again a few days later.”
Turning away from him, I faced the mirror again and looked at myself closely. I did appear to have more cuts and bruises than normal. Something was happening to me; I knew it in the back of my mind.
That sudden rush of blood lust, and now the change in my body, I would have to tell Jackson sooner or later as it was starting to make me question my abilities.
“What about this one?”
He pointed at a small scar at the top of my right elbow, I had forgotten about that one as it was very old.
"Uh, possibly from Eric when we used to train. I refused to train with blunt weapons, so more often than not, we’d catch each other. I’m pretty sure he’s covered in some old scars from me.”
“I wouldn’t just say surface scars either.”
“What does that mean?”
I looked at him with slight anger in my eyes, I knew what he meant, but I needed him to say it. I was very defensive and protective of Eric, because despite having a history together, we were still family.
