“You attacked him, almost drained him of his blood.”

“Ok, Miss Helsing, you are sounding like a crazy person. I never touched your friend.”

“Bullshit, you’re the only creature that ever broke through our defences so don’t lie to me.”

He lowered his hands then, taking a few small steps closer to me and I moved back, hitting my bike in the process as his chest met the barrel of my gun and he gave me a coy smile.

“I have no reason to lie to you, my dear.”

“I will shoot you.”

“I have no doubt you would, but you and I both know that it won’t do anything.”

He was right, wooden bullets would hurt him but not kill him and part of me wanted to fire just to find out how badly I could hurt him. I had this uncontrollable amount of rage inside me, begging me to take it out on him, use him as a punching bag, leave him bloody and battered.

“You disgust me.”

“You sure about that?"

He leaned in a little more, putting his hand over mine as he moved the gun away with ease and as he leaned into me, arching my back my blood felt hot and my heart began to race. I despised this man, this creature with every fibre of my being and yet here I was, my body aching for him to reach out and touch it.

Get a grip, you stupid girl.

And just like that, as soon as he was close enough to touch, he backed up and moved away from me. Lighting a cigarette, he turned his back and my heart slowed. Putting my gun back into its holster, I pulled out my keys and headed towards the lift and wasn’t surprised when Darius joined me.

His long black sleeve shirt was tight around his chest, and I never truly noticed how broad his shoulders were, not too wide but enough to make any normal girl weak at the knees.

“I still don’t believe you.”

“I know. But what good would it be for me to try and murder your friend, even if I did dislike the guy?”

“How did you know I would be here tonight?”

“I’ve been waiting.”

“Waiting?”

“For you to get back, and I was keeping an eye on your place. Angelique’s boys have been out in force the last two days, didn’t you know?”

As we reached the eleventh floor, I expected to continue on my way, but to no surprise or real shock, I was greeted with a rather large fist in the face as I stepped out, Darius caught me as I fell, dazed a little bit, and more pissed than before.

“Who the fuck?!”

I shouted as I hopped back to my feet and pulled out my gun again, looking towards the long corridor I saw shapes, and standing just in front of the lift was a rather large and hairy werewolf. Great, while Jackson and I aided Eric we had forgotten to tighten up the spells surrounding the apartment, and now there were werewolves standing in my hallway.

“Hey!" I shouted again, "I think you'll find the dog groomers on the ground floor, fluffy.”

“Hayley, I would be careful if I were you.” Darius’s voice sounded worried, and as I glanced back at him, his face showed his concern.

I had never been afraid of werewolves, and nothing was ever going to change that, even if the one standing in front of me was perhaps eight feet tall and built like a mountain.

“Yes dear, play nice.”

Before Darius could say another word or respond to this sassy werewolf, my foot was in his chest, and I was shoving him backwards and whipping out one of my guns. Silver bullets lived in my left one and wooden in the right.

Always be prepared for whatever monster might attack you, my father would always say.

I was pretty sure Darius was ready to kick my ass as he tore through the werewolves that continued to attack us, while I carried on beating my way through the big guy.
