Demon chuckled. “Just because your eyes are closed doesn’t make you invisible?”
“It does if I don’t open them.”
“There’s a brand-new toothbrush on the sink. And the bag your mom packed for you is in here too. Clean up and get in bed. I’ll be on the couch if you need me.”
I nodded, stupid tears leaking out of the corner of my eyes. Demon’s finger brushed the wetness away. “You’ll feel better when you get some sleep.”
When Demon left the bathroom, I slowly undressed and stepped into the shower. After I brushed my teeth and attempted to disappear a couple more times I climbed out of the shower. I moved to get my clothes from my bag, when I noticed one of Demon’s favorite baseball t-shirts hanging on the back of the door. It looked way more comfortable than what my mom had packed. And it was my birthday.
As I came out of the bathroom, Demon was coming into the room. He stopped as if he hit a force field, his eyes roamed over every inch of bare skin available to him. I could feel the weight of his gaze as it hit all the nakedness. His eyes burned brighter when he noticed I was wearing his San Diego Pappies’ shirt.
I stared right back, resisting the urge to throw off the shirt to see if I could get even more of a reaction. His strong stubbled jaw clenched. His bright blue eyes, blazed with what I hoped was lust, under his dark shapely eyebrows. It looked like he was barely holding back from pushing me against the door.
Yeah, right.
I came back to reality when I remembered that I just puked in front of him, and there was no way he could be turned on at the moment.
I drank him in, starting with his dark brown hair, already peppered with grey from the stress of revamping the club, curling at the edge of his collar. His hair barely brushed his black T-shirt, which was stretched across his muscular chest.
His tattooed arms bulged out. His blue eyes were the color of a scorching summer’s day. A summer’s day without a cloud in the sky as a reprieve from its heat. His eyebrows were sleek in a perfect arch above his eyes. I traced down his nose, somewhat crooked from being broken. His lips were thick, encased in a beard and mustache that matched his peppered hair.
I traveled down to his black jeans, not too tight, not too loose. His jeans gave me just a hint of his package, and it made me want to see more.
He cleared his throat, his stare still not moving from my bare legs. “I just wanted to see if you’re okay? And give you this.” His arms moved as if they were made of lead, and from the size of them it wasn’t a stretch. I watched the pills and bottle of water as they came to me in slow motion. As soon as I took them, he spun on his booted heels and walked out of the room. As awful as I felt, his actions made me feel even worse.
Why did I have to puke in front of him?
I woke up with my head pounding and my stomach rolling around like an escaped marble. A groan slipped from my dry lips as I searched for the water and pills Demon handed me. The ones I decided not to take before passing out in his bed.
“Hey, are you okay?” He must’ve heard my groans of desperation from the living room. He saw me grasping for the unopened water and pills and sighed. “I told you to take those before you went to bed.”
I swallowed the water, and the pills, hoping they stayed down. With my sloshing stomach, that was a whole lot to hope for. I regret wasting my birthday wish for something trivial, and instead wished I’d saved it for emergencies like this. “Actually, you thrust them at me and then ran away like a coward.”
“What?”
“If I were you, I’d be embarrassed that a tiny bit of puke scared you off. Here I thought you were supposed to be a big bad biker president.”
“I wasn’t afraid.” I winced at the booming of his voice. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to yell. How are you feeling?”
“Awful.”
Demon chuckled. “Your dad did this on purpose. You know that right?”
“Of course, he did. Get me drunk as hell, so I’ll never want to do it again. It’s the same tactic he used when he had me drink Jack Daniels’ when I was sixteen. I have to pee.”
When I walked out of the bathroom, Demon was grinning as he leaned against the wall. It was the grin that did me in. His beautiful mouth quirked at the corner was what made me stumble.
Fucking Demon, he’d been the cause of all my fumbles tonight. Why did my parents bring me to the club? Because Demon was right, my dad wanted me to regret getting drunk, but also be in a safe place. A place where he couldn’t be blamed for my hang-over in the morning.
Why did I think my dad was my favorite man?
“Whoa.” Demon came over and scooped me up against his chest.
I snuggled in and acted like I felt worse than I actually did. If this was how I was going to get Demon’s arms around me, then I was going to take advantage. I also didn’t see it ever happening again. A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do. When he set me back down on the bed, I didn’t let go of him. He had to get on the bed or fall on top of me.
Shameless as hell, table for one.
I cuddled on his lap as he got comfortable, leaning against the headboard.
