“You had a kid with a brat, became friends with someone who also had a kid with a brat, and now you’re fucking your best friend's kid. You did this to yourself, old man,” Sable says. “Also... I just want to say that I am surprised. I thought men had issues getting it up when they got older.”

“Ouch,” Marc says. “I’m not that old.”

“You’re twenty-two years older than us. You’re old,” she laughs.

“Ah, that hits a bit differently when you say it like that,” Marc says.

“It’s only a bad thing if you wanted to fuck her as a minor. I highly doubt that, so it’s not a big deal. Plus... none of this is surprising, considering she has daddy issues.”

“Maybe a little,” I say.

“You don’t call him daddy, do you?” she asks.

“No,” I laugh. “Not daddy. That would be weird.”

“Then what? I have to know now.”

“Go on, Raven. Tell her what you call me,” Marc laughs.

“No. I’ll pass, thanks,” I laugh.

“I will literally cry,” Sable says. “Tell me.”

“Fine. Master. Happy?” I ask.

“Like Dobby? I mean you are short,” she says, and Marc cackles.

“Alright. That’s enough of that,” I say, laying my head back. I smile when Marc lays his hand on my bare thigh and softly strokes my skin as he drives. I lay my hand on top of his and close my eyes.

I am sitting in Marc’s office waiting for my dad, and I am incredibly nervous. Marc decided to wait to tell him in person that he hired me. We spent all morning getting me added to the system and set up so that Dad can’t really say much. He doesn’t understand whyI am nervous, but I don’t think he knows how little Dad wants to help me.

Ever since Mom died of an overdose, I think he just hates women. He was never abusive and never neglected me, but he was emotionally unavailable. He provided the bare minimum, and it was up to me to get everything else. “Will you please stop fidgeting,” Marc says with a sigh as he sits back in his chair to look at me. “You look nice, by the way.”

I am wearing black slacks and a long-sleeved, blue blouse, paired with black flats. “Thanks,” I say. “You look... yummy... in a suit.”

“Good to know,” he smiles. “it’s going to be okay, Ravy. I promise.”

The door opens and I jump up to greet Dad. I don’t know why I do this but giving him my undivided attention is the easiest way to not make him mad. When he’s mad, he yells and says things he later regrets. It’s easier if I stay on his good side.

Marc gives me a strange look when I basically jump to attention. “Hey,” Marc says to Dad.

“Hey,” Dad says, then looks at me. “Hey, you’re here.”

“Hey, Dad,” I say with a small smile as he hugs me. I flinch when he does this, and Marc looks at me strangely again.

“What are you doing here?” he asks when he pulls away. “And why didn’t you come to see me?”

“We actually need to talk to you,” Marc says. “Sit down.”

“Everything alright?” Dad says as he points for me to sit, and I do so immediately. When he finally sits, Marc comes around to stand in front of us as he leans on the desk.

“Yeah. Everything is fine. I just wanted to tell you that I hired Raven as my assistant,” he says simply.

“Marc, I don’t want her working here,” Dad says with a frown. I give Marc an “I told you so” look.

“I’m not asking for your permission, Allen. You are in charge of your direct employees, and I am over mine. We keep them separate for a reason. She will report directly to me, and you won’t be her supervisor,” Mark says.

“No. That’s not the point. I don’t want her here. She has known for a long time that she wasn’t getting a job here,” Dad says, getting frustrated.
