She cried out. She gripped his hips with her thighs and held herself completely impaled. “Do that again,” she said.

He grinned as he slowly eased his way out.

“Yes,” he said as he thrust.

“Yes!” she said, but this time there was laughter in the sound.

He echoed it. How could he not? This was the most joyous thing he had done in his entire life.

“Yes!” he said with her as he thrust again.

“Yes,” she laughed as her body met him, matched him, and demanded more.

And more.

“Yes!” the cried together as they soared.

And then he fell.

Chapter Twenty-Four

How was itpossible to be so blissfully happy and yet so furious with herself at the same time? Lilah had loved every intimate, glorious moment of her night with Aaron. She had felt such things that she’d never imagined before. Once he’d taken her, there had been no stopping them both from exploring one another so intimately. And then, she’d fallen asleep in his arms.

Nothing had ever felt so good, and she didn’t regret it for a moment.

And yet she did regret one thing. They hadn’t done a thing to prevent a baby. How could she be so stupid? How could she have risked dooming a child to the same half existence she lived? And yet the idea of bearing Aaron’s child filled her with joy. She wanted that babe. She wanted it all and more. And yet she was furious with herself for forgetting it.

She knew better.

So, apparently did Aaron, because the knowledge had come to him during his morning ablutions. He’d been grinning as he rose from the bed, but then he returned a second later with his eyes wide and his hands shaking.

“I forgot,” he said. “How could I forget?”

And when she understood what he meant, she stared at her own hands and cursed her idiocy. “How couldweforget?” she corrected because she was as much to blame as he.

“You needn’t worry,” he said, but she held out her hand to stop him from speaking.

“I know,” she said firmly. Because she was the daughter of an actress. Some things, she knew how to do. Or at least, she knew who to ask. “I’ll handle it,” she said.

“Wait!” he cried as she hastily pulled on her clothes.

She paused to look at him only to straighten to her full height when he looked chagrined. “Aaron? I promise you, I can—”

“No, no,” he grumbled as he ran a hand down his face. “This isn’t how I wanted to do this.”

“What?” She finished buttoning up her gown and began searching for her shoes.

He grabbed her hands and pulled them up to his mouth. “You don’t need to prevent a baby.” He said as he pressed a kiss onto her wrist.

“I won’t repeat my mother’s mistake,” she said.

“Yes…I mean no.” He huffed out a breath. “I’m doing this all wrong.”

She chuckled at how adorably flummoxed he looked. Aaron was definitely not at his best without his morning tea. “I need to get going if I’m to stop by—”

“I want to marry you, Lilah. I…Please, say you will make me the happiest of men and be my bride.”

She gaped at him, her mind unable to comprehend his words. He couldn’t possibly be proposing to her now. Now! When she was barely dressed and worried about being late for work. And then to her total shock, the man dropped to one knee before her. He pressed his lips to her knuckles as he studied her face with an unsettling intensity.
