Chapter Two

Avery

The interior was dark, candlelight flickering in the centre of each table. I didn’t know how Ruin had found this place but I was glad he had.

It screamed romance and the smell of food was making my mouth water. He had done so well, better than I ever expected.

The only thing that spoilt it was the fact he kept bringing up commitment. Of me being his old lady. It wasn’t even that I didn’t want to.

I was so in love with him, he would probably run screaming if he ever realised how much. It wasn’t even the commitment. In my head, we were in a committed relationship. No, it was the underlying fear that he would leave me. That this thing between us was going to just be a moment for him. I was waiting for the day that Ruin got sick of my insecurities when he realised that committing to a woman with a kid, even if the kid was his. Wasn’t what he wanted.

I wouldn’t be able to deal with that day if I jumped in with both feet. I wouldn’t be able to protect my heart. Or Parker’s.

The more time my son, no our son I reminded myself as I followed Ruin to our table, spent with him the more Parker loved him. He was a teenage boy he would never say it out loud but I could tell.

Ruin was the father Parker didn’t even know he had been missing.

“Babes?”

I came back to myself with a jolt. Realising I had been standing there daydreaming in front of our table I gave him a rueful smile. “Sorry, this place is beautiful Ruin.” I sat on the chair he had gallantly pulled out for me.

I could really get used to romantic Ruin.

“Not as beautiful as you are Avery.” He leant over me. Pressing his lips just under my ear. “Have I told you how much I like you in that dress?” Easily he folded himself into the chair opposite. And the smile he gave me was dazzling. A flash of white on his tanned face.

“Once or twice.” I smiled at him.

My stomach chose that moment to grumble loudly, spoiling the romance of the moment.

For a moment we just sat there and then I started to giggle.

“What is so funny?” Ruin was laughing right along with me although he was trying to hide it.

“Nothing.” I hiccuped. “I’m just laughing because at least I didn’t fart or anything.”

Shaking his head Ruin pushed the menu across the table towards me. “Let’s get you fed woman, I think you are going crazy. And we all know that after crazy comes hangry and no one wants that.”

The food was amazing. “This.” I slurped up a long piece of spaghetti. “Is the best thing I’ve had in my mouth in a long long time.”

Ruins eyes blazed in his head. His full lips pouting. “Is that right? The best thing you have had in your mouth in a long time huh?” His foot hooked under the chair I was sitting on, he pulled me forward with a loud scraping sound.

Smiling at him coyly I fluttered my lashes. “It’s the garlic…”

He didn’t let me finish. One dark brow arched upwards. “The best thing you have had in your mouth Avery? Do I need to remind you how much you love having me in your mouth?”

Smiling at him, I let my foot drift up his leg under the table. I had already kicked off my heels so it was easy to press my foot to his crotch.

I loved watching his face as I rubbed against him. His eyes darkened, full lips parted but it was the swelling in his pants that I liked the most.

His reaction to me was instant. No matter the doubts I had about our future I was certain his attraction to me was still there. That hadn’t abated in the months we had spent together at least.

“The second best thing I’ve had in my mouth then.” My tongue swiped over my bottom lip seductively and his eyes followed the movement like I knew they would.

“Marry me, Avery.”

The smile dropped from my face, my foot fell to the floor with a small thump.
