She was taking her sweet time in answering me.
“I don’t know what to say...I…”
“Answer him already.” This came from Gent. And laughter filtered over us.
Cali’s eyes flashed. “He hasn’t actually asked me, anything Gent.”
Shit. Swearing I scrambled to reach for her hand. I was down on my knees on the filthy beer sticky floor waiting for an answer to a question I hadn’t even asked yet.
“Shit Cali, will you marry me?”
Chapter Five
Cali
Truth mumbled the words “Will you marry me.” But I heard him clearly. Sure he had done a lot of swearing before he had said them and his fist was bloody where he had pounded on poor Young Blood for no reason. But the words had left his mouth.
“Truth.” It wasn’t exactly the proposal of my dreams but it was a proposal. One that I wasn’t expecting. I didn’t even know what to say.
Truth was everything I wanted in a man. But we had only been together for a few months. It was less than a year since he had walked in on me getting my ass tattooed and changed the direction of my whole life.
I had never regretted that day. Not once. Not even when things had gone tits up. But we hadn’t even discussed getting married.
I wanted to say yes. I really did but I couldn’t help but worry about why he was asking me. Now in Cooks of all places.
“Truth you don’t have to do this… if it’s because of the baby then….” he was still down on his knees in front of me. Beer and god knows what else staining through the knees of his jeans.
Behind me I heard gemma squeal, Avery’s excited voice joined her. “You’re pregnant?” The whole bar seemed to erupt into cheers. But still, Truth hadn’t moved. His eyes bored into mine.
Even when Gent clapped him hard on the shoulder. “Congratulations my man.”
Other people chorused the sentiment but it was like we were in our own little bubble.
“She hasn’t answered me yet.” Truth ground out.
“Truth I love you… If it..”
“Jesus Cali, it’s not because we are having a baby. Look.” He dug something out of his pocket. Frowning as he swore. “I have a fucking ring. I’ve had it for months… I want to marry you because I can’t live without you. Not because you're having my kid.”
It wasn’t romantic but it was the truth.
“Just fucking say something, Cali. Put me out of my misery.”
I rolled my eyes. hands on my hips as I stared down at him. “You’re a twat Truth.”
Yeah, I couldn’t argue with that. I was a twat.
“But you’re my twat. Yes.” I pulled him to his feet, my arms going up to wrap around his neck. I reached up on my tiptoes to press my lips to his.
As proposals went it kind of sucked. And it definitely wouldn’t win any romance competitions but somehow it was pretty perfect.

We swayed to the music, Truths arms around my waist. His chin resting against the top of my head. I knew he wasn’t much of a dancer so I appreciated it even more.
“I’m sorry.” He finally said when several long seconds had gone by. His voice muffled as he pressed his lips to my hair.
I frowned against his chest. “For?”
