“What do we need to do for the torn ligaments in her neck?”Fury asks, standing next to me.
“We’ll keep her in a soft brace for now.The nurses will ice her neck a few times a day before they switch it over to heat.Eventually she’ll need to have physical therapy as the pain starts to fade.Rest is goin’ to be her best friend for now.You can go see her when we move her to a real room. For now, maybe one of you can go in to sit with her,” Dr.Sanchez says, looking around our group as I turn to Tristan and Zach.
“One of you can go sit with her,” I tell them, knowing Wren might be more comfortable if she wakes up and sees one of them instead of anyone else.
“No, Judge. You go in with her. She’s carryin’ your babies and I know you want to see for yourself all three of them are okay.I’m trustin’ you with my sister.Don’t make me regret it,” Zach says, speaking for Tristan and him as they both step back and allow me to go be with her.
Dr.Sanchez leads me back to the exam room they’ve got Wren in.The second my eyes land on her, I drop to the floor at the side of her bed.Wren looks even smaller than normal in the bed as blankets cover her.One of her arms is out of the blankets. It’s the arm with an IV in it.I take in the white bandage wrapped around her wrist, the one on her head that takes up most of her forehead, and the brace surrounding her delicate neck.Tears fill my eyes as I push myself off the floor and tentatively make my way closer to her side. The second I take a seat, I pull her hand in mine and hold it while placing my other hand on the swell of her stomach.
“Daddy’s here,” I whisper to the twins even though they can’t hear me as I pull Wren’s hand to my mouth and place a soft kiss against her pale skin.“I’m not goin’ anywhere ever again.”
I sit in silence, staring at Wren until a team comes in to move her to the room she’ll be staying in here at the hospital. My eyes don’t leave her as nurses come and go with various medicines and to check her vitals. As the transport team unplugs wires and prepares Wren to be moved, I step out of the way, but don’t take my eyes from her still. No one will ever get close to her without me watching every move they make again if I can help it.
Chapter Twenty-Seven
Wren
WAKING UP IN the hospitalonce again, I first notice someone holding my hand.Looking to the side, I find the last person laying I ever expected to see with his head on my bed and his hand holding mine.Judge is sleeping slumped over in the most uncomfortable looking position I’ve ever seen. His hair looks as if he’s run his fingers through it a million times and the stubble on his face is longer than normal. There’s a frown on his face even in sleep as I reach out with my other hand to brush a few strands of hair away from his face.I move as slow as possible so I don’t disturb Judge.I don’t exactly want him awake right now. When he’s asleep and quiet, I can tolerate him being around me.I don’t have to wait for the next idiotic comment to leave his mouth, making me feel as if I’ll never be good enough to even breathe the same air as him.Now is when I truly see what a sexy man Judge is and get a slight glimpse of him when he’s completely at ease and doesn’t have a million things racing through his mind.
My fingers gently brush his forehead as I push back the hair only for it to fall right back where it was.My arm is still tingling and it hurts to move, but I don’t care. The need to touch this man is overwhelming so I push through the pain and do what I want.Judge stirs and I watch as his eyes slowly open and blink a few times. He looks right at me.
“You’re finally awake,” he says, his voice deep and husky filled with sleep as he sits up in the chair but doesn’t release his hold on my hand.“How are you feelin’?”
“I’ve been better. What about the babies? Are my babies okay? What are you doing here, Judge?”I ask him, moving my hand slowly back to my side because the pain doesn’t seem to be as bad if I move slow.“Why sleep here when you’ve wanted nothing to do with me?”
“The babies are okay, Little Bird. You’ve had an ultrasound done and Dr.Sanchez doesn’t believe there will be any issues with the rest of your pregnancy.I’ve been here with you since they allowed me to come see you. You’ve been out of it for two days now.Tristan and Zach have been here every day as well. One of them is here around the clock on guard duty.Everyone has been in to see you. They’ll all be back as soon as visitin’ hours start.I’m the only one who’s stayed with you each night,” he informs me, his voice a little stronger, but still with that husky undertone.
“Why, Judge?”I question him because he still hasn’t answered that question.
“There’s things you need to know, Wren.A long conversation we’ll have when you’re not in the hospital any longer.I fucked up in every way possible with you and I’m sorry.I let my insecurities and thoughts get the best of me and ended up pushin’ you away because of it,” he says as I look at him and see the sincerity of his words while he presses a kiss against the back of my hand.
“I’m not going anywhere and there’s nothing for us to do, Judge.Tell me whatever you have to say now. Please,” I tell him as he moves his chair closer to me and keeps my hand in his.
“Growin’ up, my parents were always there for us in the beginnin’.My dad was a member of the Knight’s Rebellion MC in Braedon.I grew up with Lash and his brothers along with a few others. We learned about sex, drugs, and other shit way too young if you ask me now.Back then, it was simply part of the life we were around every single day.The six of us spent all of our time together and were the best of friends. The only reason I moved here on my own is because I wanted to be the President of the club.Lash already had the position there.
“I can’t remember exactly how old I was when things changed. My parents went from lovin’ and bein’ there for us constantly to turnin’ into selfish people who forget they had kids more often than they remembered. My dad started takin’ more runs for the club which took him away from home for weeks at a time.Mom was home, but she was missin’ him and of little use to the boys and me.I wasn’t even a teenager when I started makin’ sure laundry was done, food was cooked, bills were paid, and so much more.I went from hangin’ out with friends and havin’ the life of a child to bein’ an adult overnight. It didn’t take long for me to lose all of my friends because I couldn’t spend time with them any longer.I literally went to school, practice, games, and then I was home for my brothers.
