“Yeah, I do.Unlike you, I’m not a skank.I can count on one hand the number of men I’ve been with and still have fingers left over. You can’t count as high as the number of guys you’ve fucked.I remember you bragging once about having an orgy and you being the only female there. Why the fuck am I here, Karmen?”I question her, feeling the ropes loosen enough to slide my hands free finally but I don’t make a move to do so with her so close to me.I have to protect my babies the best I can.

“I’ve sold you, Wren.Found a man looking for a little plaything and he paid me a ton of money.I needed it to pay off some bad guys and still have money left to do what I want. You’re gonna be held here at The Hide Out until he picks you up in a few hours. Then, I’ll never see you again.I’d say it was fun while it lasted, but that would be a lie.Ya know, I always thought you were a pathetic piece of shit who couldn’t sink much lower than you were when we first met. However, you proved me wrong time and time again.Sit here and think of all the ways you’ve fucked up in your life and wrap your head around the fact that you’re about to lose everything you love,” Karmen says before leaving the room and I realize it’s some kind of storeroom with no door to keep it separate from the rest of the basement.

The second I don’t hear the clicking of Karmen’s heels on the cement floor again, I pull my hands free from the rope and pull my arms in front of me.My shoulders scream in pain from being trapped behind me for so long.I look down at my wrists to find them all torn up and bloody.Instead of worrying about my injuries, I make my way over to Leah as quickly as I can and scan her body once more.I can see bruises on her arms and neck, some cuts, and a gash on the side of her forehead. Her clothing is torn from the fight she put up as well.My heart hurts from the pain she must be in.

“Let me get you free, Leah. We’ll get you out of that window and you can go get help,” I tell her knowing she’ll be more likely to leave me behind if I mention her getting someone to help us.“If you can get there, go to the Knight’s Rebellion MC.They have a clubhouse in town and they’ll save me.Ask for Fury, Tristan, or Zach. You can ask for Demolition or Vulture as well. They’re good men.”

“I don’t like the thought of leaving you behind, Wren. You’re pregnant and that woman looks so evil.I’ve seen so many like her over the years. How do you know the Knight’s Rebellion MC?I’ve been meaning to ask you, but keep forgetting,” she asks me, her voice filled with pain as I release her wrists and take her hands in mine for a minute to examine her wounds there.

“I met Judge here in this bar.He saved me one night when I got hit by some drunk asshole trying to start a fight. Then, when I left Briar Glen the first time, I ended up in the hospital. There was a fire on the side of the road and I tried to help.I pulled one of the men from the flames and covered his body with mine when there was an explosion. He didn’t make it.When I got discharged, a few of the guys took me to the clubhouse to stay while I recovered.Plus, my foster brothers are Prospects there,” I tell her as I help her stand and find my own leg a little weak compared to how strong it’s been.

“I’ve seen them ride through town every now and then.A few times in the past they’ve stopped in for a meal.Good guys. They tip well, don’t cause a scene, and broke up a fight once. One of them is the father of your baby,” she says as a statement instead of a question.

“Yeah. He doesn’t want anything to do with the babies and that’s okay.I’ll make it on my own,” I tell her as we get to the window.

Leah leans against the wall of the basement and I try to pry open the window. It takes a while because it’s been painted shut, but I finally manage to break it free and push it out.The opening is larger than normal as I pull over a few boxes for Leah to climb on so she has an easier time getting through the window.Thankfully, she doesn’t have to worry about dropping to the ground or anything. It’s ground level so she can crawl right out.

“I’m coming back for you, Wren.If I don’t come back myself, I’ll send the club to get you,” she promises me before climbing up on the two boxes and leaving me alone in the basement.

I don’t take my eyes off of Leah as she stands up and moves away from the window, looking back just before she disappears from view. There isn’t a doubt in my mind Leah will make it somewhere she can find help. She’s as stubborn as a mule and she won’t let anything stop her from saving me.That’s just the kind of woman she is.

Now that I’m free, I look around the basement for anything I can use as a weapon. The only reason I’m not climbing out the window with Leah is because I don’t know that my stomach will fit through the opening. If I do, I’ll risk the babies and that’s not something I’m willing to do.While searching the basement, I listen for any sounds from the bar above me.I can hear talking and laughing but that’s about it.The Hide Out shouldn’t be open at this time of the day since it’s Monday. The only day the owner doesn’t have a day shift because he wanted to recover from the weekend.I find nothing to use as a weapon, but there is a door on what I’m guessing is the side of the building. If I’m right, it’s on the right side and leads toward a forest I can hide in if I can get it open.I’ll try that in a little while because I’ll need some way to defend myself if I do manage to get free.

Chapter Twenty-Two

Judge

ZACH RUSHES BACK inthe clubhouse with frantic eyes as he looks around. He’s moving so fast, he almost runs Tristan over as he starts to head back outside.Tristan tries to get Zach to stop moving as he runs to the staircase leading upstairs.I get a good look at him and take in how pale he’s become and the tremor in his body. His eyes have a wild look I’ve never seen on him before and I can practically see the fear and panic surrounding him.

“What the fuck is goin’ on?”I bark, causing him to stop in his tracks and glare at me.

“Fury!”Zach hollers, ignoring me for a second as I stand from my seat, tired of this shit.

I listen as Fury’s door opens upstairs and his feet pound against the floor.Walking over to Zach, I place my hand on his shoulder and turn him to face me.

“Zach, I’ve given you some leniency because I know I fucked up with Wren and hurt a lot more people than just her with careless words I didn’t even mean. That ends right the fuck now. When I ask you a question, you fuckin’ answer me.I’m the President of this club and youwillrespect me.Now, what the fuck is goin’ on?”I ask him, my voice hard as Fury runs down the stairs to stop in front of us.
