He should turn around and walk out of the office. Better yet, he should go find himself a new house to live in and wait for Dr Micha to come back with the damn results, make sure the experiment was working. But no… he couldn’t let it go.
“You think the experiment is not working?” he bit out. Anger boiled inside him. He was being irrational, he knew, but he couldn’t help it. Nylune’s words felt too much like a rejection. One he couldn’t stand for.
Nylune glanced at him, then looked away. “I didn’t say that. We need to wait for the tests to confirm and then we can…”
“Continue fucking?” Adew said. Nylune’s eyes returned to him, flashing with something that made Adew sizzle. He took a step closer, dragged by the light in his eyes. “So, what are you going to do while you wait? Are you going to stay in your room and suffer through your heats like you did last night or every other night since I moved in?”
Nylune flinched, his eyes going wide. “You heard that?”
“What do you think?” Adew asked. “I heard everything. And I couldn’t do anything about it. You believe the experiment is not working. Is that why you stayed away?”
Nylune shook his head.
“What?”
“I can’t need you. I…” he dropped the box on the chaise and walked to him. He stopped a few paces from him, making Adew wish he would come closer. “Confirming that the experiment is working, means I would have no choice but to be with you, to take what I need from you. Any feelings I develop would be like a side effect to the treatment.”
“And right now…”
Nylune stared down at his feet. “Right now, it’s too real. The claiming mark, everything that happens between us. It’s too real, and I know it’s not. You feel like my alpha, and you shouldn’t. I don’t want to get attached to you… to fall for you. This is not real, after all. You’re here to help me heal.”
“But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy the process,” Adew heard himself say. He cringed at his words. But fuck, he couldn’t stop. “I need you too. You heal me. When you call me alpha…”
Nylune gasped. Adew closed the gap between them.
“I feel whole. I feel like I’m not broken, like I’m the same alpha before my injury. I feel strong.” Adew took hold of his right hand and brought it to the back of his neck. He shivered as his touch soothed the tension there. He didn’t even care that his fingers touched the WAB straps. In that moment, the machine didn’t exist. He stood on his own. His muscles strong.
“I don’t…” Nylune began, trembling.
Adew silenced him with a kiss. “We need each other, Nylune. Help me heal, while I help you.”
“What if the experiment is not working?” Nylune asked, full of doubt. He’d been through this for five years, alone. Of course, he had doubts.
“Then we’ll stop. Dr Micha will have the results soon. In the meantime, take what you need from me.”
“But…”
“Stop thinking, Nylune,” he said, kissing his cheek. The omega whimpered, tilting his neck to the side. Adew growled, wanting to devour him. “Let me be your alpha for a little while.”
“Yes,” Nylune said, tightening his arms around him as he clung to him. “I need you, alpha.”
“Anything for you,” Adew rumbled against his neck as he walked him backward to the chaise. He was going to claim him again, until he’d left a part of himself inside him.
Chapter 14
Nylune
“Stop staring at me on that screen and open the door.” Hazi stubbornly folded his arms over his chest. “Are you going to let me in or not? I’m not leaving.”
Nylune groaned and opened the door. “I thought I told you not to come.”
Hazi rolled his eyes and picked up his grocery bags. “Just because you said it doesn’t mean I agreed to it. And besides, I let you have your alpha for days now, stop being selfish.” He walked into the house and headed to the cooking station.” He dumped the bags on the counter and stared at him. “What happened? Are you hiding something from me?”
“Put your suspicious eyes away,” Nylune said. “I’m not hiding anything.”
“Really?” Hazi looked him up and down. “Why didn’t you want me to come? Are you and Adew having sex all the time?”
“No,” Nylune blushed, and looked away. He heard Calla coming down the stairs, followed by Adew. His heart thudded in his chest, and his cheeks heated even more.
