Nylune wished he could help them. Do something, but… he hung his head as he stared at the bottle of pills on his desk. He was as helpless as they were. His life was a mess. He went into heat four times a day. He barely slept, he saw no one but his cousin, when he managed to visit him. He was stuck in this house. Because of his condition he couldn’t live in a commune house with other omegas and, thanks to Maxus, he was allowed to do that. He had got him a residence permit. His beta boyfriend had dumped him. Nylune had heard that he got bonded to some omega right after Nylune’s incident with Deltta. His family had disowned him. He kind of knew they would, but it still hurt the way they cut him off without any contact. He didn’t get to explain or tell them his side of the story. His mom and dad had simply decided he was no longer part of their family.
A stab of pain went through him, Nylune gasped, gripping the edge of the desk. Their rejection hurt more than the ordeal he went through every day. He knew he’d disgraced them, but he was their son.
He wiped away the tears that suddenly filled his eyes.
Fuck, he was emotional. If he wasn’t horny, he was crying. You’d think he would be used to it by now, being alone in the house. But he wasn’t. He felt so lonely.
Nylune sighed.
It wasn’t all bad though. His illness gave him the opportunity to work with one of the best inventors on their planet. And he was an omega too. Ludiin was a genius, and he created the best pleasuring bots he’d had the pleasure of reviewing before they went to market. He might not be useful, but he liked to believe that he contributed to the well-being of all omegas around the planet.
Nylune turned to the other side of his office, where he did his work. A comfortable chaise sat against the wall. Next to it was a recording system that he used to capture his sessions. It was embarrassing to watch himself in the throes of his heat, but he sometimes lost all his senses, his mind shutting down to give way to his base omega instincts, especially in the heightened moments of his heat. He went crazy, craving an alpha’s knot and cum inside him. He craved other things too. He wanted an alpha to pin him down, bite him, fill him up to the brim, use him and stretch him wide with his knot.
It was all disgusting and filthy, but he craved it all the same; needed it. Heat crawled down his spine at that thought. His eyes fell on the unopened boxes of pleasuring bots still waiting for him to test.
Fuck.
Keep moving, Nylune told himself. He wasn’t in the green yet. His heat still burned red-hot in his veins. He walked out of the office and headed to the backdoor that led to the backyard. He opened it and breathed in the balmy night air infused with a myriad of scents coming from his garden. For five years, he’d done nothing but spend his nights in his backyard, turning it into a haven of vegetables, sweet smelling flowers and fruits. Spotlights strategically placed around the garden illuminated the space, highlighting some of his exotic plants from other planets. He turned to his most treasured one. His pride and joy; the Ceroid Cactus - queen of the night. The cactus bloomed once a year during a full moon.
Nylune stared up into the sky, looking at the twin moons in anticipation. This year was the first time the plant was going to flower. It took a lot of care to get it to grow. Nylune wondered if it would bloom. Their planet’s environment was vastly different from its home planet. It could go either way. But the tiny buds sprouting on the plant were promising. He just had to wait and see.
Nylune picked up his gloves and weeder from the bench he kept next to his lounge chair on the porch and walked down the tiny steps onto the grass. He dropped to his knees in front of the first flower bed and searched for any weeds that dared to grow in his garden. There weren’t many, since he did this every night. He moved from flower bed to flower bed. His mind drifted and his heat cooled to a dull ache he could handle.
A door opened and closed next door. And the slow tread of feet filled the silence. Nylune paused and held his breath. Someone had moved in next door.
When? He stared at the wall separating his yard from theirs, as if it held all the answers. The last tenant, a sweet beta, had moved out a year ago. Although they hadn’t been close because of his condition, they had sometimes spoke through the wall. Nylune was sad when he’d left. He was the only person he’d spoken to, other than Hazi and Ludiin, his boss. But Ludiin didn’t really count because he’d never met the omega. They chatted only when he sent his reviews.
The hesitant tread of feet sounded louder as they moved right past him on the other side. Nylune rocked away from the wall, sitting on his haunches as if they could see him.
“I like it,” they said. “The pictures didn’t do it justice. I’m glad I moved in.”
Nylune tilted his head as the voice rumbled all around him, prickling his skin. He bit the inside of his mouth as excitement cascaded down his spine.
He’s an alpha.
Oh, shit, Nylune thought nervously, rubbing his arms as goosebumps erupted all over.
“Good. This is the last house that’s not connected to us in any way. The media won’t find you here. If you didn’t like it…” another alpha trailed off.
His curiosity piqued, Nylune stared at the wall. That ever present need to interact with other living beings surged within him. But he pushed it down. Being around alphas was risky. He never knew how his body would react. And there was the whole scandal thing. The council of alphas had managed to keep his face out of the media, but some people knew who Deltta Kohle’s assistant omega was at the time. He’d been on the news a few times when he accompanied the alpha king to events.
Nylune blushed, embarrassed all over again. After all these years he couldn’t believe he’d had sex in the highest-ranking office on the planet with the alpha king, poison or no poison. He should have tried to control himself. And the fact that the whole thing had been dug up a few months ago when Deltta was reinstated as the alpha king… damn.
He turned to the door, judging how fast he could run into the house without anyone hearing him. Shit. He was at the end of the backyard. They’d definitely hear him if he moved.
“If I didn’t like it, then what?” the first alpha asked with a laugh. “You would have found me another one to make me happy. You can’t deny me anything, Lars.”
“And I’m starting to regret it,” Lars said sadly. They were silent for a few seconds. Nylune held his breath feeling the tense moment from across the wall. “Adew, listen…”
Adew? Why did that name sound familiar?
“Don’t start with that,” Adew said. The sad tone in his voice pulled on him. “Leave and let me get some rest. I’m tired. It’s been a long day.”
“Are you sure? I can stay the night, make sure you’re settled in.”
“Don’t baby me, Lars,” the alpha growled.
Nylune heard a shuffling of feet and then a door slammed closed.
