Jamue balled his hands as the desperate feeling filled him. The alpha felt right…perfect.

And spending time with him made it worse. He was slowly falling for the alpha.

Jamue forced his hands to open and reached for Mac. Hand in hand, they walked out of the washroom.

"I can't believe your father is out there," Mac said, staring at the crowd as they entered the great room. The inaugural party was in full swing. “You should ask Hym to talk to him. He’s your alpha.”

Jamue's heart ached.

He wanted that more than anything...but...

"I work for him. I'm not bonded to him," Jamue said more to himself than Mac. "I can't ask him to take that kind of responsibility. And besides, I haven’t told him about father or Master Rosh."

“Jamue?” Mac said horrified.

“I couldn’t tell him. I wanted a few days to myself and to be with him. It was selfish, but I couldn’t help myself,” he said.

“You wanted a break. I understand,” Mac squeezed his hand. They weaved through the crowd to their temporary war room. Mac checked the cylinders and made sure everything was in order.

The betas serving the crowd were doing an excellent job.

“I should go find Deltta. He’s probably looking for me.”

“Go,” Jamue said, turning to look for his alpha too. He hoped he could avoid his father for as long as possible.

“Jamue?”

He jumped at the sound of his name. He turned and sighed in relief when he saw Holi.

“I thought that was you.” His cousin smiled, but the smile wasn’t as bright as it used to be. His skin was pale.

“Are you alright?” Jamue stepped close to him. He was thin too. “Holi?”

He waved him off. “I’m fine. Just tired. I’ve been running around all day.”

“Really?”

“I work for the food service company.” Jamue noticed the serving bot behind him.

“Holi…”

“Don’t…don’t do that. Don’t pity me,” he said. “It was good to see you. I haven’t seen you since…” his eyes drifted over his shoulder.

Jamue didn’t need to turn around to know that Hym was close. His body buzzed in anticipation. He looked over his shoulder. Hym waved, then stopped to talk to some alpha.

Jamue blushed and turned back to Holi.

Eyes wide, Holi stared at him. “You found him! It’s really him, isn’t it? The alpha you met five years ago. You found him.”

Wait what? Five years ago? Did he meet Hym five years ago? He stared at his cousin, confused.

And then he remembered what his father said while he spoke to his brother. Something happened to him five years ago.

Did it have something to do with Hym?

Jamue took a step close to Holi, grasping his arm. “You know what happened to me five years ago? Tell me.”

“You don’t remember?”
