He hoped he kept to his no-touch rule.
He needed him, Jamue thought as he made his way to work.
He and Mac worked on their sampling event spirit kit – refining the design, while Nova took care of new orders and sent out delivery bots. They were selling out their spirits fast.
"We need to increase production to keep up with demand."
Jamue told Mac that as they went through their inventory.
“I know,” Mac said, staring at the distilling machine. “But let’s have our sampling event first, and then we can think about expanding. Besides, you have to sort out your life first. I can’t think or do anything while you’re stuck in that house. I’m afraid your father might get you bonded without anyone knowing.” Mac grumbled. “I wish I could be your alpha again.”
Tears prickled his eyes at his protectiveness.
Jamue pushed them away, smiling. “You'll always be my alpha. But you don’t have to worry anymore. I got the job.”
“What?” Mac stared at him.
“I got the job. I signed the papers this morning. I’m going to my alpha’s house tonight.” Jamue's smile widened. It felt strangely good to say it.
Mac swatted his arm. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
Because he was afraid his father would find out and ruin everything.
"Why are you not excited?"
Jamue sighed. “I don’t know what father will do once he realizes I’m not coming home.”
“What can he do? You belong to another alpha, Jamue. Don’t forget that,” Mac said vehemently.
He knew that, but…
“My family is powerful, Mac.”
Mac folded his arms over his chest. "You have powerful friends too. I won’t let anything happen to you, even if I have to get the alpha king to go and talk to your father.”
The alpha king, would he get involved in such a small matter?
“Don’t look so sceptical. Deltta would do anything for me. Now come. Let’s get this inventory done so I can go home.”
Jamue nodded.
He returned to his alpha’s house still thinking about his father.
The noise was the first thing to hit him when he walked into the house.
"They're having dinner," Pitra offered as he ushered him to the outdoor sitting area.
Jamue paused at the door. This was different.
Back home, dinners were a silent affair. Not here. Although it looked chaotic as everyone spoke over each other, they seemed to be having fun.
Hym turned towards him as if he sensed him standing there. He smiled, causing his heart to skip a beat and his lungs to constrict. He looked happy to see him.
A strange feeling looped up his spine, making his stomach feel funny. Jamue stood there awkwardly as Hym continued to stare at him.
“Are you two about to fuck?” Luci asked from the other side of the table.
Jamue gasped.
