Hym stared at him, eyes heated.

Jamue immediately regretted his words.

He blushed. “I mean…”

“I know what you meant. And it's not that I’m uncomfortable, I just… I sometimes wake up at night agitated from my dreams. Depending on how intense they are, I might need you to calm me down or to stop my wolf from running out of the house,” Hym said the last part softly.

Did he say wolf?

He’d never seen one. They didn’t turn into their wolves anymore.

But he did.

Jamue stared at him, fascinated.

No wonder he felt his raw aggression. His wolf wasn’t dormant like the rest of them.

“Don’t look at me like that,” Hym said, rubbing the back of his neck.

“Sorry,” Jamue stared at his feet. He didn’t mean to make him feel uncomfortable. “You said you want me to stop your wolf from running out of the house. How am I supposed to do that? I’ve never seen…”

“Your scent… being close to you will stop him. It will satisfy the need for him to…” Hym trailed off, staring at him strangely. “Don’t worry. Having you here will calm me. I feel better already.”

“I’m glad I could help.”

Hym looked around them, making him look too.

Jamue walked to the four-poster bed covered in white sheets with fluffy pillows against the headboard. It looked comfortable and cosy. A lounging settee sat in front of the bed. Jamue ran his fingers over the material, liking the feel of it. He moved to the other side of the room. The clothing cubicle looked big enough, and the washroom was to die for, the bathing bot was top of the line.

“You can change whatever you want and make it your own,” Hym said.

Was that nervousness he detected in his voice?

He was trying so hard to please him.

Jamue smiled to himself, relaxing a little.

“It’s lovely,” he said.

The alpha’s face lit up as if he prepared the room for him.

Jamue blushed. “I should get going.”

“Yes, of course. I’ll see you after work. Or should I pick you up?” he asked, excitement lacing his voice.

“No. My driver will bring me back.”

Hym nodded, even though he looked disappointed.

“Our trial run begins tonight,” he commented softly.

Jamue nodded nervously.

He walked out of the house, feeling like he was dreaming. He tightened his fingers around their contract papers.

The trial run begins, he thought, holding it to his chest.

Hym had no idea what he'd given him - a light in a very dark tunnel.
