His brother broke the damn council of alphas’ rules to get Ludiin and his brother Luci under his care. They should be in some commune house right now, but Tarymn found a way to keep the omegas with him.
“Good night, brother.” He walked to the door.
“Shit, Hym,” Tarymn gripped his arm, pulling him to a stop. “Listen. You can’t keep hoping your dreams are real. It’s been five years. If you were bonded to your true mate, don’t you think you would have met him by now? Makar would have told you the truth if something happened after they found you. Nothing happened, brother. You need to start living in reality.”
Hym clenched his jaw.
Makar would have told him if his dreams were real. But his boss said nothing. Hym turned and walked out of the room.
“Hym?” Tarymn called after him.
He didn’t stop.
He made his way back to his room. He walked to the bed and stared at it.
Was he really a dream?
The dreams were too real to be unreal. But there was no proof.
Shit.
What happened to him after his rescue?
Hym raked his brain until a pounding headache started at the corner of his right eye.
He hissed, rubbing the heel of his palm there.
Perhaps nothing happened and he was trying too hard to find something there because he couldn’t bring himself to let go.
He sighed and walked to the washroom.
Might as well go to work, he thought.
Hym got cleaned up, his mind focused on work. He ran over the facts of his investigation. The attack on Deltta was precise and professional. Deltta survived because he was a strong alpha. There was no telling what would happen the second time. They had to stop the bastards before they tried again.
But he had to find them first, he thought as he made his way out of the house. He opened the door and came to an abrupt halt as he came face to face with Luci.
The omega jerked, startled.
“I didn’t expect anyone to be awake at this hour,” he said looking away.
“Are you sneaking in?”
“I'm not sneaking,” he said with a flare of his nostrils. “Since your brother insists I come home every night, here I am.”
“Good night then,” Hym said, walking out the door. Luci gripped his arm. “What?”
“Are you alright?”
No. But he didn’t need to know that.
“I’m fine.”
The omega stared up at him sympathetically.
Shit.
“Be safe,” he said softly.
