Mac touched his chest to make sure he was breathing. A gust of air left his chest in relief.

“What…what happened?”

“He was attacked. They stabbed him with a flaming blade.”

Mac hissed, taking in the bandages around his side.

“The wound was deep, but they managed to close it. He should have woken up by now…but…” Maxus trailed off.

“Is he going to be alright?”

“I don’t know.” Maxus sighed. “We’ll have to wait and see.”

“Can you please give us a minute?”

“Yeah, sure.” Maxus left him alone.

Mac’s hand shook as he took his cold one.

Oh no, please don’t die, Mac thought as he leaned close to whisper in his ear. “I need you. Don’t…don’t do this to me. I can’t lose you when I just got you. I’m sorry it took me so long to accept your love. I was blind. I’ve wanted someone like you for so long that I started to believe that you will never come. And when you came, I couldn’t believe it. You were larger than life. I couldn’t see how you and I could be together. I was a fool, baby, please don’t leave me. I love you.” Mac leaned his head on Deltta’s shoulder and cried. “Wake up, please.”

Deltta coughed.

Mac froze.

“Deltta?”

“You love me?” he hissed.

“What?” Mac stared down at him.

“You said you loved me.” He tried to reach for him but grimaced in pain.

“Don’t move. I should go and get someone for you.”

“No. Stay.” He touched his cheek softly. Mac gasped for breath. “Bond with me.”

Mac nodded. “I will.”

Deltta laughed. “Finally. It took me getting hurt for you to tell me how you feel. I should have done that a long time ago.”

“That’s not funny. I was scared.” Mac kissed his cheek.

“I’m sorry baby, I didn’t mean to scare you. I changed into my wolf for the first time. It must have wiped me out. I’m right here. I'm not going anywhere. I have so much to live for now.” Deltta closed his hand around his neck and pulled him close. “I love you.”

“I love you too.” Mac sniffed.

The door to the room opened, and Maxus walked in with Yarr.

“Master.” Yarr rushed to him. Mac moved to the side to give them room.

“I’m fine, Yarr.”

He turned to his brother. “Did you catch the bastards who tried to kill me?”

“No. We’re still looking for them. The one you knocked out came to. He hasn’t talked yet, but he will. Tarymn and Hym are on it.” Maxus gave his brother a worried look. “Are you alright?”

“I’m great. I’m going to get bonded. He finally said yes,” Deltta announced. Mac blushed and tried not to fidget when everyone turned to him.
