“But what?” Deltta held his breath.
“We need to…I need to tell you something. It’s…” He sounded frustrated and torn. Deltta was torn too. He didn’t know what to do with his feelings – they were strong, and deep.
“I don’t want to stop either, Mac. I want us to talk, but I don’t want to do it over the connector. You said you were coming to the capital. When are you coming?”
Anticipation crawled over his skin, making him warm all over. He couldn’t wait to see him again.
“We’re leaving tomorrow, so we’ll arrive the next day.”
“Come to my house,” he said.
“No. I promised Griean I’ll spend more time with him.”
Voice going dark, Deltta bit out. “Come to me.”
The possessive beast inside him that wanted Mac to be his omega reared its head. He took a deep breath, trying to shove it away. The last thing he wanted was to scare him away. He opened his mouth to take his words back, but Mac beat him to it.
“Okay,” Mac whispered breathlessly.
Deltta closed his eyes. He loved it when he submitted to him without hesitation; it made him feel like he was already his.
“I’ll be waiting." He dropped the connector in his lap.
Fuck, he groaned as excitement and hunger churned inside him.
What the hell?
His feelings grew intense every time they spoke.
Deltta shot to his feet and walked to the desk. He poured himself a glass of Red Amber. He didn’t like the spirit anymore, but he fucking needed it.
The door to his office opened.
“Pour me some."
“What’s wrong?”
Deltta stared at his brother. He looked exhausted.
“Just another day at the office. Had a meeting with the council of alphas it took longer than I thought,” Maxus mumbled. Deltta handed him his drink and returned to the recliner.
“You’ll get used to it.”
“You think?” Maxus groaned, leaning back into the couch. “How did you deal with Pharyi?”
Deltta froze.
“Is he giving you trouble?”
“Yeah.” Maxus rubbed his eyes. “He opposes every idea I come up with. And he has a lot of power in the council. I don’t know what to do.”
Deltta wanted to tell him to ignore the alpha until Tarymn and Hym found the evidence they were looking for, but that might take time. If he opposed Maxus on everything, then he viewed him as an obstacle. Pharyi got rid of everyone who stood in his way.
Fuck.
“I didn’t have many dealings with him when I was the alpha king. He must have climbed up the ranks while I was not there,” Deltta lied.
He couldn’t reveal what he knew, not yet.
