“You were strong, firm, and I was proud of you. She was gaslighting you in the worst way, and I’d say that if I wasn’t interested in being with you.”

“She…does that. And thank you.” She glanced at Beks. “I think I’m over that bitch.”

“Good. I think you’re amazing, and I want to kick her butt.”

“No.” She appreciated the sentiment though. She rubbed at her eyes, which had finally stopped leaking all over. “You want to forget she ever existed and kiss me.”

“Who existed?” Bekka leaned right in, kissing her like she was delicate, precious.

Nobody.

She returned the kiss and it felt as if Beks was new, like she’d just learned something she didn’t know yesterday. She didn’t know she’d needed someone in her corner so badly.

And it felt like Bekka was. She didn’t feel like Bekka had been jealous of Josie, or worried, but she’d been respectful instead ofMarissa.

She needed to step up. That’s how she felt. Like Beks a made her want to be…better. She’d never been with anyone that inspired her that way. Maybe she hadn’t given Beks the chance the first time around.

Maybe they hadn’t been ready.

Maybe it just hadn’t been the right time and place.

Bekka would love that idea.

She leaned in, pushing Beks back into the couch cushions.

“Mmm…yummy.” Beks nipped her bottom lip, teasing the hell out of her.

She cupped Bekka’s ass, one of her legs slipping in between when there was a knock on the door.

“Bekka? Marissa? Are y’all all right?”

“Goddamn it, Bry,” Beks groaned, shaking her head. “When do we move to the house again?”

She laughed and pushed off the couch, giving Beks another quick peck. “Be nice; he was just my knight in shining armor.” She opened the door. “We’re fine, come in. I’m so sorry about all of that. Thank you so much.”

“I’m so sorry. I assume she figured out you had to be in the upper floors and thought she’d hear you?”

“It’s not your fault. She’s…” Marissa waved it off. “I’m just glad I didn’t marry her. And that she didn’t try to punch you or something.”

“I’d just have yelled for Bekka. She’s a stud.” Bryan winked at her, his eyebrows gyrating.

She turned to look at Beks, who had her foot up and her arms crossed. “She is pretty badass. I mean, look at how she fought off that tree and got away!”

Beks gasped, lips forming an ‘O’. “Oh…oh, that was so mean!”

Bryan though, he was laughing his ass off.

She grinned and went back to Beks on the couch. “Your superpowers are all in here.” She tapped Bekka’s chest. “You don’t even need a phone booth.”

“You just wanted to touch my boob, Mari.”

“Ew!Girls!”

She laughed. “This is my honeymoon after all.”

“Oh, right. I’d almost forgot. Happy Christmas Eve. Did you guys want to do anything this afternoon? The world will be closed down by six p.m.”

“Beks had something but she’s been interrupted twice…what have you been trying to tell me we’re supposed to do, pretty?”
