Did Beks just say amazeballs?
The cart rolled to a stop right in front of Bryan.
“I’ve delivered your newlyweds, and they’re adorable.”
“Good morning, ladies.” Bryan offered her a hand out of the cart, and she took it.
“Thank you. Good morning.”
“Hola! How goes? This snow is wonderful, and I’m in love.” Beks made everyone grin.
“See ya later, lovebirds!” The cart took off.
“Bekka, you are very…colorful.” Bryan gave her an affectionate smile. “The snow might complicate my photo shoot a bit, but let’s get your gear, and we’ll give it a shot.”
“Woohoo! Snow bunnies ahoy!” Beks winked at her brother, then headed into the ski shop.
How had she gotten herself into this?
“Snow bunnies? Really? Just my luck to be pretend married to a morning person.” She followed Bryan and Beks to the ski rental building where they were fitted for skis, poles, boots, helmets, and goggles. She didn’t even want to know what all of this high-end gear would have cost if she’d had to pay for it so she didn’t ask. The good news was that she remembered how it all worked and was able to step into her skis on her own once they got outside.
Score one for the city girl.
Beks was nowhere near as competent, and ended on her backside three times while she was trying to get her skis on.
You’d think Bryan would have stepped in to help, but no, he was too busy snapping pictures. She stepped back out of her skis and offered Beks a hand. “I got you. Line up your toe.” She put the toe of her own boot up against the front of the binding to hold the ski in place and let Beks hold onto her shoulder for balance. “Good. Now drop your heel and put your weight on it.” She waited while Beks snapped her heel into the binding. “Woo! You did it. Perfect. Other foot?”
She caught Bekka’s eyes and froze.
“Please. Thanks. My butt’s going to be black and blue soon…” God, she was pretty.
She’d kind of like to kiss that bruised ass and make it all better.
“Don’t worry, I’m sure I’ll have some spectacular wipe out and we’ll be nursing our bruised asses together.” She tore her eyes away because the image in her mind was way too X-rated for being this close, even if it was only twenty degrees out. She repeated the procedure with the other ski, and Beks was good to go.
“Okay. Okay. Okay, this is weird, but cool.” Beks rolled her eyes but stayed upright.
“These pictures are great you guys.” Bryan looked pleased. She didn’t realize he’d been taking pictures of all of that. “I’ve got enough of this for now. Are you ready to meet your instructor?”
This was going to be interesting. She wasn’t sure poor Beks was going to make it. She was ready for some fun though. “Sure.”
“Kailyn? Your victims are here!”
This tall, red-headed goddess of a woman sauntered out with a blinding smile. “Bryan. Be kind!”
So every woman in Summit Springs was hot and extroverted? She made a mental note to visit again next winter.
“I’m Marissa. I’ve only done this a few times.” She stuck out her ski mitten and bumped with Kailyn.
“So you’re the newbie?” Kailyn smiled at Beks.
“Totally. I’m new to all things fun and snowy.”
Kailyn checked all of Bekka’s equipment, as if she hadn’t done a perfectly good job of getting Beks squared away herself. “Okay…” Kailyn helped Beks plant her poles and winked at her. “Rebekka, right?”
Wait. That smile was flirty. That instructor was flirting with Beks. Beks washerpretend wife, dammit.
“I’m going just walk, and you’re going to glide. Right pole, left foot. Ready? Glide.”
