Soon Beks came bebopping out in a rainbow snowsuit, beaver earmuffs, and a GoPro.

She really did look adorable.

Damn.

“You definitely look ready to go skiing in a lesbian wonderland.” She pulled on her purple ski jacket, which was boring by comparison. She was glad she’d gone with a color instead of black.

“Aren’t you cute? I love that color on you!” Beks started singing Christmas carols as she opened the door.

Beks was way more of a morning person than she was. Or maybe Beks was like that all day? She honestly couldn’t remember. “I guess it’s been my favorite forever.” She checked to make sure she had her keycard, then followed Beks out. “Did your brother say where we’re meeting him?”

“He said there will be transportation up to where the skiing happens.”

“Fancy. I had champagne in my limo from the airport. We probably don’t get that up to the mountain.” She laughed. That would be all she needed. Her skiing was sketchy enough without alcohol.

“Nope, that’s apres-ski, right? Hot toddies and mimosas and all?” Beks bounced, her pigtails bobbing.

“And a lumberjack-chic fireplace.” She imagined pulling on one of those pigtails.

In bed.

Jesus Christ, Mari.

She told herself her nipples were hard because it was twenty degrees outside. “Does it ever get this chilly in Dallas?”

“Ha! It’s eighty today. I checked. This iswaymore fun.” Beks scooped up a handful of snow and tossed it in the air.

She managed to stay out of the shower of snow, but she couldn’t help laughing. She wasn’t a free spirit like Beks, but she had to admit she enjoyed watching.

“Can you imagine living here? I would be making snow angels every day!”

She snorted. “I’d be drinking Irish coffees.” She didn’t know if she could imagine living here or not. “Have you been into town? I feel like I should go check it out.”

“I have! I went down with Bryan yesterday for steaks and a beer. It’s charming as hell. Coffeeshop, bookstore—even a chainsaw artist.” Beks nodded, so enthusiastic. “It’s magical at night.”

She was sold. Maybe she’d go down there later and look around. She’d never seen a chainsaw artist. “Sounds fun.”

“Right? I peeked in the coffee shop. They have pastries!” Beks laughed as the snow began to fall again. “It’s snowing! I want to go to a hot spring while it’s snowing.”

She just wanted to get these pictures over with and try not to die skiing.

A strange sort of alpine golf cart stopped in front of them. A woman in a green one-piece snowsuit with the resort logo on it smiled at them from the driver’s seat. “Good morning, newlyweds! Ready for some fun?”

Beks wrapped one arm in hers. “We so are! The snow is utterly romantic.”

Marissa was going to beat her.

“Utterly.” She deadpanned, climbing into the back seat. She let Beks have the front since she was so…bubbly. Marissa felt like she was going to need more coffee to keep up.

“You’re getting beautiful weather this week. Some snow, some sun, not too cold…are you here until Christmas? If you are, you should check out the tree in town and go to the bazaar.”

“There’s a bazaar? Oh my goddess! I totally love that idea. Tell meeverything!” Beks grinned back at her. “I love the whole idea of Christmas parades and pageants and bazaars!”

She had to smile because the notion made Beks so happy, and honestly, Marissa was intrigued too. It did sound like a good time.

Their driver went on. “There are vendors and crafts, tons of food and music, dog sled rides and ice sculptures. It gets bigger every year. And it’s all lit up at night, it’s great.”

“Ice sculptures? Oh, wow. I’m totally in. That’s amazeballs.”
