Right now, he had more important things to focus on. Namely, the fact that Eloise Fisher was standing in his apartment—hair still damp from her recent shower, and her flawless, makeup-less face appearing even younger than usual—and she’d just asked him to make love to her.

No, not asked.Begged.

Standing there, wrapped tightly in his arms, Ellie had stared up at him with those big, blue eyes, and quite literally begged him to take her to bed.

Aaaand…you’re still standing here not giving her an answer why?

Lucky blinked, realizing he was wasting precious time. Time he’d always dreamed of having, but that he never thought would be granted. Not with this woman.

And since he never claimed to be a saint…

Sorry, Arch. I tried.

Reaching down, he hooked his arms around the backs of her thighs just below her luscious ass. Lucky hoisted her into theair, causing Ellie to cry out in surprise. As she did, her legs reflexively wrapped snuggly around his waist, and her hand flew up and around his neck.

“Jason! What are you—”

His lips were on hers before she could even finish the question. God, he loved it when she called him by that name.

With his mouth otherwise occupied, Lucky decided to show her his intent in place of a verbal response.

That’s not all I’m going to show her.

Turning, he held Ellie steady while keeping one eye on his given path. In an almost hurried pace, he carried her out of the office and down the hall, to his bedroom.

He worked his mouth hard against hers, his tongue swirling and dancing with hers in a sensual, demanding intrusion. In response, she welcomed him in, seemingly savoring every kiss.

Every lick.

Every playful nip.

Damn, the woman can kiss!

Lucky’s dick became so swollen, the damn thing felt as though it would rip straight through his sweats at any moment. He was more turned on than he could ever remember—painfully so—and so far, all they’d done was kiss.

If just kissing Ellie affects me this much, how the hell am I going to survive when I finally get inside her?

Unwilling to let that thought or anything else deter him from giving Ellie exactly what she’d asked for, a very determined Lucky kept a protective hold on his precious cargo as they made their way across his bedroom floor to his bed.

With oh-so-gentle moves, he laid Ellie down onto the plush white comforter covering his king-sized mattress. The room was filled with moonlight and shadows. Magnificent lines oftransparent silver shimmered through his windows, their light reflecting up at him through Ellie’s gorgeous blue gaze.

Her brunette locks were still damp from her earlier shower, she was dressed in Cassie’s t-shirt and sweats, and she was staring back at him as if he was the single most important thing in her whole entire world.

It doesn’t have to mean anything.

His chest grew tight as he replayed Ellie’s recent words. She’d seemed to mean them in the moment, but what she didn’t realize—what she couldn’tpossiblyknow—was that for him, this moment meant everything.

Easy, jackass. It’s just sex. That’s all. Just two consenting adults letting off some steam. Nothing more.

The voice in his head wasn’t wrong to warn him away from such romantic notions. After all, this was Ellie. Strong. Independent. No-strings Ellie. So even if he did want something more than this one night with her, that didn’t automatically mean she would feel the same.

But if there was even a hint of a chance that there could be something more between them, Lucky was more than willing to give it a go. As for Ellie…

He glanced down at where she lay waiting, his heart filling as his dick throbbed between his thighs. She’d said she needed to escape. Had begged him to help her forget.

Oh, I’ll help her forget all right.

In fact, after tonight, Lucky was pretty much banking on the idea of Ellie forgetting every single other man who’d come before him. Both literally and otherwise.
