Epilogue
Six weeks later...
“Here ya go.” Jake handed Jason another beer.
“Thanks, man.” Jason took the bottle and smirked. “You know, I could get used to everyone waiting on me like this.”
“Well, don’t.” The other man sat down in the empty lawn chair beside him. “Only reason I’m doing it now is because my wife said I should bring that to you.”
Jason shot Jake a raised brow. “And you always do everything Olivia says?”
“Pretty much.” Jake shrugged. “You’re next, you know. Better get used to it.”
Jason knew his friend was full of shit. He lived to make his wife happy. And Olivia did the same for him.
Theirs was the kind of marriage he wanted with Sophie. The kind he knew they were going to have.
After being released from the hospital, they’d decided to put her house on the market, and she’d moved in with him. It took all of two weeks to receive an offer she was happy with, and they’d closed the deal another week after that.
Jason would’ve been fine selling his place and moving into hers, but Sophie hadn’t wanted that. She’d told him she’d fallen in love with his place on sight. That it was perfect.
Just like her.
Prior to his release, Jason had worked from his hospital bed to close the investigation into Colton Moore. He still couldn’t believe the dumbass had thought his plan was a good one.
Men like Asad Al-Karim did not take kindly to things such as blackmail. It was a lesson Moore had learned the hard way...with his life.
The one good thing that had come from it all—aside from him and Sophie’s relationship—was that Asad had been arrested for his terroristic crimes.
The former Syrian president was currently being held in a classified location within the United States. His younger brother, Sarim Al-Karim, had since taken his place as President.
From all accounts, Sarim was the ‘good’ brother, and had nothing but good intentions for his country. Jason and his team had been watching him closely, and from what he’d seen so far, Sarim had already begun to rebuild trust with the Syrian people.
“You think things will truly calm down for Syria now that Asad is out of the picture?” Jake seemed to read his mind.
“Sure as hell hope so.” Jason took a slow pull from his beer. “I’m surprised Sarim stepped in after what his brother did, but all of our intel points to him being one of the good guys.”
“What’s going to happen to Asad?”
“You know how that shit works. They’ll get what they can from him, and then...”
Jason didn’t finish his sentence. He didn’t have to.
Men like Asad had a way of disappearing. And the world will be a much better place when that finally happens.
Sophie strolled across Jake and Olivia’s back patio and sat down on Jason’s lap.
His fiancée was a vision in her long, flowered sundress and sandals. Her hair flowing freely around her shoulders and down her back.
God, I can’t wait to marry her.
He’d been serious about the Vegas wedding, but they’d decided to hold off until he was completely cleared from the doctor. Neither one wanted anything to get in the way of their special day...or the honeymoon.
“Hey, you.” Jason took the kiss she’d offered.
“Hey, yourself. You got a second to talk?”
“I’ll go help with the food.” Jake rose to his feet and gave them a tip of his bottle before leaving in search of his wife.
