As he lay in the dark, with Sophie sleeping like an angel in his arms, his thoughts took him into the past.

As it often happened late at night, when no one was around, memories of the pain and heartache Jason had suffered all those years ago assaulted him.
The agony from that day was as fresh as if it had just happened, but he pushed it back, like he always did. Refusing to let it take over.
Sometime later, as the dark of night slowly began to break into the dawn, those heartbreaking thoughts morphed to something different.

Sophie woke engulfedin a blanket of muscle and heat. When she opened her eyes, she felt confused and disoriented, and it took her a full five seconds to realize where she was...and who she was with.
Holy crap! I slept with Jason!
It all came back to her in a single, jolting rush.
The nightmare.
The screaming.
Jason waking her up in nothing but his boxers.
Him sliding into bed and pulling me into his arms.
She’d slept in Jason Ryker’s bed. The man wasstillin his bed. And his strong, toned arm was draped across her midsection, pinning her to the mattress.
Sophie turned her head and found his sleepy gaze staring back at her.
“Morning.” His deep voice resonated within her.
