His unexpected use of the honorific when he isn’t apologizing to me for something makes my heart flip.
Noi and I respectfully wai at the screen, and then I hand Noi a box I’ve opened with my pocketknife.
He pulls out a large yellow stuffed cat and a pink stuffed bear. The chat fills with comments that the cat is Sud and the bear, obviously, is Mee Noi.
“Oh, how cute!” Noi enthuses. For an introvert, he’s doing really well taking the lead on this live. It probably helps that he can’t see the people he’s talking to.
“Look, Sud, it’s us. You are kind of like a big cat. All sleek and graceful.”
For some reason, that makes me blush, and the fans notice, their comments flooding the chat.
Noticing the bear has Velcro on its paws, I lean over and latch its arms around the cat’s neck, then I hold it up for the camera.

“They want you to hug me,” I tell Noi, after reading the screen.
Noi smiles in a way I can only describe as flirty—a look he’s never directed at me before that I can remember—and I can’tdeny that it does something to me. Setting down the stuffed animals, he wraps his arms around me. I can hear the comments pinging as they come in fast and furious.

“Noi and I are best friends. We hug all the time. It’s not fanservice,” I say when I read that comment.
Fans comment on how much they love that. Someone says, “Are you sure just friends?” but we ignore it.
While we chat and unwrap and make a fuss over the gifts, Noi and I take turns answering questions, although we have to skip some due to inappropriate content or trolling. We ignore those, but our fans go on the attack, driving those commentors out. Someone suggests we assign a moderator next time to keep out the troublemakers.
An hour later, the floor is covered in wrappings and gifts. I’m surprised by the number of handmade items we received. When Noi unwraps framed fanart of the two of us, tears fill his eyes.

Overwhelmed, I hold back my own tears while patting Noi’s back. When he starts wiping at his tears with his sleeves, I go find him a box of tissues. When I get back, I hand them to Noi and address the chat participants.
“We don’t know how to thank you all for your support. Noi and I are working hard to give you the best performance we can give. We hope we won’t disappoint you.”
