“I can get behind that.”

“Let’s do it.” I clapped my hands and we moved toward the rack of green dresses.

Selle ended up pulling three different dresses. Each was beautiful and I followed her to the dressing room then waited patiently while she tried them on.

She didn’t show them to me.

She picked one and we checked out and headed back to her place.

“You’re coming in, right?” she asked.

“You want me to?”

“Of course I do.”

“I like that.” I grinned.

“Yeah, yeah. I bet you do.” She giggled, leaned over, and kissed my cheek.

I turned my head so we could kiss briefly and pulled into a parking spot.

I carried her bag and followed her to her room. I found myself automatically glancing at the living room camera. The thought made me grab my phone and turn both cameras off. I texted Kiano immediately.

Me:

Selle is working hard to look good. No peeking.

Kiano:

You’re full of shit.

Me:

Nah. I’m serious. Patience is a virtue. Be cool. It’ll be worth the wait.

Kiano:

I’m sure.

I liked the message without responding and collapsed at the foot of Selle’s bed while she walked over to her vanity and sat down.

She played music while she did her makeup and neither of us spoke. I just watched as she worked and honestly this shit was flattering. I liked that she just wanted to exist together. She’d invited me up just to be with her. That was cool. I liked it.

“Do you want kids?” she asked after a while.

“Why? You pregnant?”

“Fuck no.” She snickered and looked back at me. “Answer the question.”

“I don’t know,” I admitted and collapsed onto my back, feet still planted on the floor. “I mean, I know I’d be a good parent and shit, but honestly, after damn near raising my siblings, I’mnot really rushing to start over again. I’m just trying to get the kids I already have to college or some shit. You know what I mean?”

“Yeah. I get that.” She looked back at the mirror.

“What about you?”

“I think so. I’d be happy with just one or two. I mean, I love having a brother, so I think it would be cool to have that with my kids, but I’d never have more than that.”

“I feel you.” I grabbed Selle’s lighter off her bed, tossed it into the air, and caught it. We sat in silence for a little bit. “I’d give you kids if you wanted them with me, Selle,” I said quietly.
