“What is it?” I question, looking at it like it’s going to bite me.
“Open it and see, woman,” he replies with a smirk.
I huff out a breath then grab one of the plastic knives from the table I’m at and slice across the top, gasping when I see what’s inside. “What the hell?” I murmur. There’s a check which I recognize since it’s pay week, another one which says ‘bonus’ on the memo line, then a bunch of fake money with the name of the store Patsy works at printed on them. “What is all of this?”
“The club decided your hard work at the shop shouldn’t go unrewarded because you sorting our shit out has increased profits significantly, so you got a bonus for that, plus your regular paycheck, and well, you’ll have to ask Patsy about those other things. I think you use them like money at her store like gift certificates or something.”
“How did I get those though?”
He sighs before running his hand through his hair. “Whenever Patsy has to reset her department, she can bring in outside help. Typically, they get paid for that work, but Atlas requested to get his in the store money so he could give it to you.”
Unbidden, tears come to my eyes. “Y’all have already done so damn much for me,” I murmur, looking up at him. He’s not especially tall, but compared to me, he’s gigantic.
He winks before replying, “You ain’t seen nothing yet.”
