Chapter Seven
“You’re falling forhim, aren’t you?”Tatiana asked.
“Is that a bad thing?”Clarissa asked, looking out her bedroom window over the garden.
Lorenzo was speaking with the gardener. She didn’t know what he was talking about, but over the past few weeks, their relationship had changed. She hadn’t moved back into the main bedroom; however, each night they would hang out in his office and make out, learning and exploring, and she loved every second of it.She loved being with him.It was exhilarating, and she knew deep in her heart she wanted to go further with him.
“Not really, I guess.Let’s face it, he said a few bad things.Men can be assholes, so I guess there is no problem there.”
Clarissa winced, because Emilio had said some bad things, only it was about what he had done.
“How are you and Emilio?”Clarissa asked.
“No change, to be honest.I don’t know what he expects from me, if he even expects anything.”
“Don’t you hate this?”Clarissa asked.
There was a pause and she heard a sniffle, but it wasn’t close to the phone, so she knew Tatiana had pulled away.
“All the time.I hate it so much and it makes me sick to my stomach.”
She heard the pain in Tatiana’s voice.
“You know, I’ve watched Liana, Mia, and now you, all of you go through similar feelings, and you’ve started to forgive your husbands.I get it.Trust me, I do.Who wants to live with a man you can’t stand?”She let out a little laugh.“I get it more than anyone even realizes.”There was a sob.“And I try, I do.I come down to breakfast, and I think to myself, I am going to put all of this behind me.I’m not going to think about it.He said it’s not true and he lied, and fine, he lied.Okay, so I can deal.Everything will be going great, then it’s like a crash and it hits me.He said he lied, but what if he didn’t?What if he has someone else, or what if there is someone else down the line?I don’t want to fall in love with a man that can do that.”
Tatiana let out another sob.
“Honey.”
“I keep trying, and I know I’m ruining our lives, but should I believe what he told his friends? What he told me?Why would someone lie like that?”Tatiana asked.“Why do people lie in the first place? It’s fucking mean and it’s cruel, and do you know what sucks the most, I was falling in love with him.It was a freaking fairy tale to me.I loved him so much and I knew I hit the jackpot, and it was rare. It’s why it hurt so badly hearing what he said. How do I trust myself?”
Clarissa didn’t have any answers.“I’m so sorry.”
“It’s fine.It gives me hope.Hearing you and Lorenzo are finally able to work past it.You two have what it takes.I’ve seen the way he looks at you.”
“What?”
“Well, as you know, I was there for your wedding, we all were. The moment you walked down the aisle and the veil was lifted, I saw the way he looked at you, like you were the only woman in that room.”
“I doubt that.”
Tatiana laughed.“We’ve been to a lot of weddings, and we’ve seen men who are not happy with the woman they are marrying.Trust me when I say Lorenzo was happy you were walking down the aisle toward him.”
There was some noise on Tatiana’s end.“What is that?”Clarissa asked.
“Look, I’ve got to go, and I’ll talk to you soon.Love you, bye.”
Tatiana hung up, and Clarissa stared at her cell phone, a little taken aback. That was the strangest call she ever had with her friend.
She noticed she had a couple of texts from Mia and Liana, and she opened them up.Liana sent a picture of Diego with his son, and there was no denying it, they were an adorable family.Mia showed off her stomach, and how she was balancing a cup on her swollen belly.
