“Tonight.”
“I’m busy.” She tidied up a stack of papers on the desk.
“Tomorrow night?”
Brushing her fingers through the ends of her hair, she said, “Busy tomorrow too.”
He crossed his arms over his chest. “You’re not going to tell me you’re washing your hair, are you?”
Guilt spread across her face. “Of course I’m not.”
He didn’t believe her for a second. “Then you tell me when you’re available.”
“I’m not available.” She rearranged a bunch of red and yellow folders sitting in an already tidy tray.
“Are you involved with someone?” Did his mother get the information wrong?
“No, I’m not.”
So what was the problem? Because he didn’t believe the crap about being too goodlooking. “What about a drink then if you don’t have time for dinner?”
Sighing, she sat on the edge of the desk. “Look, Jack, I’m not interested in going to dinner or for a drink.” Then, like she thought she should soften the rejection, she added, “But thanks for asking.”
Jack wasn’t one to back down from a challenge. He’d led his team to victory more times than he could count when no one gave them a chance. Giving up wasn’t an option.
As he walked toward the desk, wary eyes trailed him with a mix of trepidation and suspicion. He stood close enough for his leg to brush against her hip, and satisfaction at the sound of her quick, shuddery breath pulled a smile from his lips.
Leaning closer, he breathed in the sweet fragrance of her perfume. “Meet me tonight.”
The pulse in her neck beat at a rapid pace, and he desperately wanted to run his tongue along it. Wanted to taste the sweat running off her body when he got her into bed.
She slid along the desk and pushed herself away. “No, Jack.”
“I’ll be at Jovi’s if you change your mind.”
“I won’t. If you want to buy another gift, Jaime will be more than happy to help you, otherwise, we’re done here.” She marched to the door leading to the carpark and opened it.
For now he’d let it go. With a brief nod, he left her office. Once sitting in the car, his lips curled up into a smile. Yes, she was a challenge he was eagerly up for.
Chapter Six
Hazel eyes with golden flecks of arousal stared up at him. Her tongue darted out and licked her plump bottom lip in anticipation of his next move. Honey-blonde hair as smooth as silk fanned over the pillow as Lauren lay naked beneath him. Firm, pert breasts fit generously in his hands. Her rosy nipples stood proudly at attention. Lowering his head, Jack took the pink offering into his mouth. Lauren groaned, and it was the sexiest sound he’d ever heard. She arched her back up off the bed, sealing their damp bodies together.
“Please,” she whimpered.
“What do you want?” he whispered, then blew warm air across the raised peaks.
“You. I want you. Now.” A shiver passed through her body as he trailed his fingers down her soft, flushed skin and entered her hot, wet center.
“Where do you want me?” His voice shook. He might be teasing her, but it was killing him to hold back.
“Oh God, Jack. There. I want you there. Now!” The last word was said in a pleading sob.
Rising above her, he kissed her slow and deep, then positioned himself between eagerly awaiting thighs. Lauren grabbed his hips with impatient hands, digging her nails into his flesh and guiding him to where she wanted him…
The sudden shrill of his mobile phone pulled Jack out of the erotic dream. Blinking, he turned his head to the pillow next to him. When Lauren wasn’t laying naked by his side, he let out a string of curses, crude enough to blister the ears of the toughest truckies.
He fumbled with the phone sitting on the bedside table, punched theanswerbutton, and growled, “What?”
