“I fucking hate bullies,” she growled and slung her arm over Sonnet’s shoulder. “My name’s Scarlett. Yours?”

“Uh, Sonnet.”

“Cute. Sounds like a mermaid’s name, which fits your hair perfectly. Hey, let’s get out of here before they start crying wolf. I have the best lunch spot. No one will bother us there.”

Scarlett didn’t give Sonnet any time to refuse, holding her hand and dragging her along. She felt bad for the girl who got struck, but nothing could compare to the feeling of childish excitement.

She had made a friend.

Chapter1

Shirts, dresses, socks, jewelry, nothing, absolutely nothing in Sonnet’s closet, was what she was looking for. She had gone through everythingtwice, and now it was scattered throughout her room like a landmine. One wrong step into the neckline of a flowery blouse, and she would fall downwards quicker than lightning struck the ground.

Sonnet laid flat on her belly and helplessly stared at her mess. For months, she had been planning the concert of the Obsidian Alphas down toalmostthe last detail. How had she completely and utterly forgotten the most important part? The outfit!

Her bedazzled phone vibrated beside her.

Sonnet hit the speaker button and groaned loudly. “Help me!”

“No, don’t make that noise! Don’t tell me you’re not ready for the concert,” Summer barked.

“I have nothing to wear.”

“Nothing?I’ve seen your closet.”

“Exactly!” Sonnet bit the inside of her cheek and gazed over her mess. Her colorful mess. “And do you ever remember seeing any shade of black in my closet? NO!”

In the background, Sonnet could hear Scarlett cackle. “How does the biggest fan of a rock band not have punk rock clothes to wear?” She asked, laughing.

Summer sighed. “Look, we’re about five minutes away from picking you up. We’ll help you figure out an outfit. Just please, please tell me you at least have your hair and makeup done?”

Sonnet rolled her eyes. Those were the first things she did before realizing she had an outfit crisis. Her hair, currently dyed a shade of bubblegum pink, was in a messy half-up, half-down style with two little braids framing her face. She brushed on white and silver eyeshadow, blush, mascara on her fake eyelashes, perfectly winged eyeliner, and extra-sparkly lip gloss that tasted like candy.

Satisfied with her answer, Summer ended the call, and Sonnet anxiously waited for them. When they pulled up, she was impressed and jealous of their outfits. She hadn’t expected them to go all-out for a concert she had to beg them to go to. Sure, they tolerated the music, but they never got into it like Sonnet had.

The Obsidian Alphas debuted two years ago around her nineteenth birthday, and Sonnet was forever changed. Sure, it partly had to do with her attraction to the boy band, but their music was life changing as well.

“You are the sexist ladies I have ever seen!” Sonnet squealed.

Summer had her corn blond hair pulled into a tight, high ponytail, her streak of baby blue on the left side of her head pairing well with her silver and navy themed outfit which were the colors of the new album. Her face was bare because it broke out easily, and she was wearing her favorite pair of tennis shoes because she had sensitive feet, but she still managed to look cool.

Scarlett, however, was a real rock star herself. Tonight, she wore her thick black hair down, her curtain bangs curved at the sides, and her singular strip of red tied into a tight braid. She had spray-painted a black tank top neon green and orange and slung over her shoulders was a leather studded jacket. She wore a leather skirt and fishnet stockings that matched the colors of her tank. She paired her outfit with elaborate boots, dark eyeshadow, green eyeliner, and orange mascara, along with plenty of silver jewelry.

“I’m so jealous!” Sonnet cried and flopped onto the floor.

Summer stepped right over her and made that disappointedtsking sound as she began to rummage through her mess.

Scarlett, on the other hand, did as any best friend would. She laid on the floor right next to her and gave her hand a tight squeeze.

“I’ve got it. Look, I—Hey! Get off the floor, honestly. You’re wasting my time,” Summer barked and pulled them up and presented her outfit idea. “It’s not great, and I know it looks plain right now, but Scarlett could—”

“Found some Sharpies,” Scarlett cut in. “And some acrylic paint. Sit still in the car, and you’ll be looking like the hottest omega anyone has ever seen.”

Sonnet squealed. “You guys...I love you!”

“Just get dressed already so we can leave. We’re already behind schedule.” Summer scolded but gave Sonnet a tight squeeze.

Sonnet quickly shredded her pajamas and swapped them for her light blue, ripped-up jeans, white tank top, dark blue fuzzy boots, and a dark blue sweater. She grabbed her purse and jumped into the backseat with Scarlett.
