“Baby, I won’t let him get to you. You are safe here. The palace is protected. I didn’t think I would have to bring you here so soon. No one knew who you were to me, so I thought you would be safe,” Silas states.

“Go back to how I healed,” I say, trying to distract myself.

He lets out a sigh.

“My father said that once the bond starts to form, our brides will get special powers. They are supposed to form slowly but, because you almost died, yours seemed to come out faster.”

“So, I can heal just myself?” I ask curiously.

“He said you would be able to heal yourself and others. I don’t know how long it will take for you to learn to control it though,” he explains.

“That means I just need to practice,” I tell him, sounding excited about the idea.

That would be an amazing gift to be able to heal anyone.

“What do you mean, practice?” he asks warily.

“I’ve got to figure out this whole healing thing. What happens if we are attacked again, and I don’t know how to heal others?” I say in a tone like he should know this already.

“Who would you need to heal?” he asks.

“You; your family,” I say softly. “I’m assuming you all can get hurt.”

“We can get hurt, but it takes special weapons to actually kill us. We heal, but slowly. If we were stabbed to the degree that would kill a mortal, it would take us weeks to heal,” he explains.

“See, now if I can control my power, you guys won’t need to wait that long,” I state.

“You aren’t scared or going to run anymore?” Silas asks.

“Oh, I’m fucking terrified but, as more shit happens, I can’t really deny it anymore. It’s still hard to believe that all of this is real, but I’m literally in Hell right now. I can’t just ignore it or run away,” I tell him.

He chuckles.

“That’s true. My brothers wanted to meet you once you were awake,” he mentions nervously.

“Meeting the family already?” I ask with a new set of nerves taking over.

“They saw you when we brought you back home, but you were unconscious so it doesn’t really count,” Silas says.

I get up off the bed.

“Let’s go meet these sinful men,” I state.

He pauses before asking, “sinful men?”

“Well, that’s what you are,” I say with a shrug. “You said you and your brothers are each sin, and you are all men, so sinful men.”

He shakes his head and grabs my hand.

I can feel myself shaking with every step we take.

“Relax. It’s going to be fine,” he whispers as we walk through what looks to be a main room, kitchen, and down a long hallway.

Once we make it to the end, I see a huge common room with a bunch of men sitting around it. They are all chatting but stop once they spot us.

Okay, maybe this is stupid to be in a room with so many men, considering my history, but I don’t feel threatened by any of them.

“Finally!” one says, sounding excited and a little too cheery for me.
