Roberto’s face went pale.

“Alba wouldn’t do that,” Viola said.

“She’s changed,” I said. “Haven’t you ever wondered why some girls went missing from your home? How they miraculously found an exit, a way out?” I smiled at them. “Come on, you had to be curious. While they were in your home, you had more women get lost than any other Capo. It must have pissed off Serra.”

I looked from Roberto, to Alice, to Viola, and they all didn’t have a clue.

“They bribed the men.”

This made me tut. “No, you see, while you were giving Chiara and Viola your undivided attention as they were your golden children, Alba didn’t like what you were doing. She hated seeing the women, and for four years, slowly, she helped as many women as she could to escape. I found those women, and they all said Alba Marini helped them. She was an angel amongst evil.” I couldn’t help but smile. “That day, all those months ago, I already knew the wife I was going to take. My plan was set in motion for your destruction the moment you took my sister.”

“My daughter wouldn’t do that,” Roberto said. “Alba was a good girl.”

“You’re right, she was a good girl, and now she’s mine.” I pulled out my gun and looked Roberto in the eye. “My sister was innocent, but I know you were the one who helped pick her up. Your men stole her off the streets, and she came here before she was sold. You should have let her go.”

“You’re him?” Roberto asked.

“You didn’t figure that out already?” I looked at the man who had helped set the wheels in motion. Roberto and I had a different meeting over twelve years ago, and it ended with my ass being kicked. He got his men to beat the crap out of me and leave me for dead. It was when I made my vow that I would make him and every member of the Serra Mafia pay.

I was finally going to fulfill my promise.

Chapter Ten

Alba

“You look a little stressed,” Dana said, coming into the room.

I was sitting in the library. I’d already gotten washed and changed into a pair of jeans, a shirt, and some sneakers.

I looked toward Dana and nodded my head. “I’m stressed. I’m trying not to think about Odin, but it’s kind of hard not to when I know what he is doing right now.”

“He’s got this covered,” Dana said.

It didn’t matter what he had covered or not, it still sucked. I still had this overriding fear that something bad was going to happen.

“Do you have plans when all of this is over?” I asked.

“I’m going to help other girls like me,” Dana said, coming into the room to sit in front of me.

There was no point in the book that was on my lap. I couldn’t read it, and I was hoping for any distraction that would take me away from not knowing what was happening.

“Trafficked girls?” I asked.

“Yeah. I know they’re going to need someone to understand what they’re going through. That is where I come in.”

“You’re very brave,” I said.

“It’s all because of you.”

“I didn’t do anything.”

“Your dad was not exactly the nicest guy. You weren’t his favorite daughter,” Dana said. “I know you had a rough time of it.”

“I just helped kill one of my sisters,” I said, looking past her shoulder. “And I don’t feel any guilt.”

“And not feeling anything bothers you?” Dana asked.

“Shouldn’t it? Odin opted to save her. I was the one that said to leave her, after I broke her nose. She’s dead and I know she was a monster.” I took a deep breath.
