So kissing and making up wasn’t going to be on the menu. Eric had expected that. Bree always could hold a grudge, and it sounded like she had more than enough reason to, beyond what he’d done to her personally. She reached for her purse again. This time he snagged her hand. “We’re not done yet,” he said.
“What! What’s left to talk about?”
“Marcus Forrester. He’s dangerous, Bree. I don’t know why he’s approaching you to get to me but you have to stay away from him.” If Eric knew what Forrester was up to, he could plan for it. It couldn’t have been something as simple as arranging an interview.
“It’s not like I seek him out, you know.”
“I know.” He squeezed her fingers gently. “He’s playing a game, and you’re a mystery piece.”
“But I don’t want to play,” Bree protested.
“I’ll get you out of this, Bree. I promise.”
The fact she didn’t spit in his eye was encouraging. He pushed. “It was good, you seeing Adam. He misses you.”
Bree grinned at him. “I am pretty awesome.”
“You are.”
Her smile vanished. For a moment, one split second, he’d had her back.
She pulled her fingers from his. “Okay, you deal with Marcus Forrester, and I’ll take care of Allison and we’ll go our separate ways from here.”
Not if he could help it.
